I nearly bought a ex firestation complete with pole to convert to a house. Seemed ideal to me, huge garage underneath, batman style pole down to your transport in the morning, ample parking for 4 large fire engines, a bell to use in a quirky alarm system, big doors that open fast and it was cheaper than the surrounding houses.
Mortgage broker didnt see the potential the same way though...

That's an amazing idea. My Mrs always moans that when we look at a house I'm never really bothered about the house, just the garage, land and outbuildings. A fire station is just a massive workshop with a bit of living accommodation above; absolutely perfect.

If this was in the countryside and not too close to the 'big smoke' I fancy my chances of persuading Mrs Climber that we should buy that.
Horsham is (or was 25 years ago...) not a bad place and within reach of the a272 near Upper Beeding and other little villages between farmland, but 2.5 million, way way beyond my budget ever. The place we were looking at was 170k, but it had leaking flat roof and was a bit decrepit and was in kent near enough to London to commute in daily and my wife said yea to my mad idea. A real estate developer bought it shortly after and turned it into a gazillion flats sadly.
