Suggestions welcome

Hi guys,

Currently doing out my 3 car garage. Wanting to fit all the garden machinery bits aswell as a 2 post lift for the motors.

Trying to plan it all out, does anyone have any suggestions for over sights I may have missed?

Without details and plans about the only thing you can categorically say is how ever much space you think you’ll need won’t be enough.

How high is it? a bloke i know has fitted a lift to maximise storage, has to wear a bump cap & now cant work in there cos its so full of stuff.

Can you have too much garage lighting?

I am still clearing out my front garage for car lift install. Lighting has always been very poor. Just one batten light. And the sectional garage door means it totally blocks this light when the door is open! It is open most of the time I am in there welding at cars etc. I have a 6 feet LED...

Have you checked the electrical supply is the correct size?
Will the floor construction be good enough for the ramps securing bolts?

Never mind any of those suggestions so far. Does it have the essentials ?
1) Sink
2) fresh water supply (tap)
3) shelf or cupboard near the sink
4) electric socket near the sink
5) kettle
If not then these should be the first consideration as without tea/coffee making facilities it will be unusable and nobody will want to assist you when help is required.

The last thing you need in a workshop is a kettle & tea making facilities. All it does is encourage rubberneckers & "mates" to hang out & stop you from working. You will never get anything done, I know this from experience!

How thick is your Concrete, the minimum for a 2 post lift when I was researching this is 6 inches, the manufacturer of the lift I bought stipulated 8 inches, though I’ll never be lifting a 4.2 tonne car

I did more or less this just using Visio.

You can easily create scaled shapes for most things you might want to add.

As @MetalMonkey says though, it won't be big enough!

At the rate I'm going to be finished by September

Actually, in March I should be breaking up the floor and looking at the technical details of rebar and bolting down etc before pouring new slab.

Installing the lift is easy, I did mine on my own (rather foolish thing to do the posts are heavy) in about 6 hours with tea breaks.
Not including the wiring, you want a 16 amp socket, integrity of the concrete is the main thing, if needed I can show you a diagram of what is recommended for the base of the lift re concrete, there are different options, only if you don’t have the required depth.

Budget for a garden shed separate to put all that crap thats not for working on fun things in...
