Coloured Upvc double glazing

Looks nice but I wonder about durability and absorbing heat in summer?
Apparently it can also be painted over?
Anyone got experience of this?
Black and dark grey seem popular.
Looks nice with a white render.

One of the neighbours had brown upvc doors/windows fitted about 15 years ago, after 10 years they started to go patchy showing white chalky patches.

Just put a cheap set of white upvc in then, will look fresh for the sale then it's not your problem.

Its quite easy to paint, remember the kitchen I did I believe its just the same to do UPVC

white reflects the sun though the frame does stretch enough and you can see that with the silicone in the middle of windows as the seal breaks there often due to heat expansion from the house and sunlight on them

use a dark colour and those frames do stretch for fun

both frames do break silicone sealant seal more so the darker upvc frames

Very well indeed. I done it in the summer new porch door in white . Had a weekend of car welding and grinding on the drive and two weeks later door cill turned brown.

Some are like a wrap. And the window cleaner damaged my sisters off white. She was not best pleased, as the water got in and lifted it.
I painted some white upvc sofit boards with bedec barn paint, two coats, cant tell between the sofits and coloured frames near them

just a point here your sisters window cleaner is not at fault here its down to where those windows frames was supplied from

if fitted with a wrap it can and does fail

Plain white every time unless you have a *really* good reason not to.

I looked at buying a renovation property a while ago (odd situation, it was being sold by the ex of a lady I knew). I was on good terms with the estate agent selling it, even before I went to view it they warned me my first impression would be the "chocolate brown" windows - and it wouldn't be good first impression. They were right

If you're selling it just fit standard windows. No need pay for for high-efficiency / top security options if it's just to make it look pretty when it goes up for sale.

Edit: taking the glazing out to paint the frames isn't difficult but why even consider it if you are fitting new windows and selling it soon after

Summary: White every time.

guy i know now a well faded bleached mat brown probably of been ok if he had cleaned them 10 years ago using t cut

I've gone with anthracite grey outside and white inside at both home and the office. Time will tell how it holds up, but I like the look with the white render.

If you're worried white windows against white render will be too plain, try the Mediterranean look by painting a border around the doors & windows - easy to paint it all white again if you don't like it

My parents house had dark brown wood effect UPVC windows and there was never a problem. They were fitted for over 10 year's. It will depend on the quality of the profile used to make them.

I fitted RAL7018 Anthracite, smooth no wood grain, white inside in our holiday cottages, due south facing, no signs of fade.

Black windows on our house though they are white on the inside, so think they are a wrap, been there 9 years now and have been fine, back garden is south facing and literally cooks in the summer, they look way way better than the crappy chocolate brown that everyone else down the road has, neighbour started the black idea, we copied him and another house up the road did the same.
Front door is BRG in colour and is also fine, though as under a porch rarely sees the sun.

Cheap white windows do look terrible, seems to me the cheaper they are the thicker the frames are?
