Do the police actually have the scanners ? if not then its probably a waste of time . Same with smartwater probably
I get calls from the police every now and again to identify loose horses as they don't even have a scanner for the microchips in them.
This is the problem,
There are several types of tag (plus all sorts of other things)
If there was one standard method of tag/chip/whatever then it might be possible to get the police to use them. Some sort of rfid tag could probably be used with smartphones by members of the public even.
But, nobody would make any money from that so there are just a load of competing commercial offerings meaning no one can have all the scanners (or the time) for all of them
