mine came from a chemical works and were used for emptying out bunds etc in gas aerias no sparks

Assume you want spares ? Diaphragms, balls or even the pneumatic valve?
If they've gone, you might as well find a replacement or you'll be in the same place next time - size of diaphragm will give you a good place to start for pump size.
No local pump or even pneumatic specialists tonsed what they sell?
If it all looks okay and intact, but simply doesn't run - try lubing the air valve bits. Had one that was running all the time keep stopping - supposed greased for life, but clean and regrease then giving it a lubricated air supply - no more issues.

I think what has happened is the air/water separator has never been cleaned/emptied (it was absolutely full and rusty when i arrived), the machine has had water on the air side, and then over time what with the corrosive chemicals, it has started letting air into the media side, that has then started getting out of the case.

We had dozens of those pumps in the paintshop at Land Rover from baby 4" to some over a foot diameter, I seemed to have a 50/50 chance of success when rebuilding them even when I followed the same process
