sticking carpet to metal

my landy hasnt got a roof lining its just bare metal.
i remember seeing an article aes ago on someone who lined his with thin carpet but cant find it anywhere.
can anyone suggest what adhesive is best to use please?

I'd reccomend you use cheap camping mats, with/without carpet if you want it. Far better for insulation.

The best stuff to use is the one you spray on with a paint gun
You get better coverage and adhers better than the normal
spray cans
I did the 90 i got and done from wheel arches up to roof also
Cuts down the tinny sound well

Hi, don't use ordinary carpet spray adhesive, you have to use high temperature adhesive, as I found out when I replaced the headlining on my wife's Saab, it didn't last an hour in the sun before it started sagging again.

I've used this before on underbonnet soundproofing after normal spray glue gave way when the sun came out to play.
It's been dandy but it's not in a spray can.

I don't know about the heat aspect, but Evostick (not the water based) does most of my sticking rubber to metal.

Be very careful using carpet, there isn't enough insulation value in it, the roof will still condensate and the carpet will hold it, causing mould and smell.

I glued cheap camping sleep mat to the rear, and then sheeted over that. I was then given a part roll of self adhesive foam sheet for under laminate flooring. So I fitted that to the cab roof, This was far easier to fit and looked good when installed.

Fair enough. What was his reasons?

We used it for most effect on a Mk2 Golf Driver, stuck on in the middle of summer, and it worked a treat... smelt a bit for a day though.

If, however, there are good reasons why not to use it I will be open to changing my view!

One of our vans is 22 years old. 15 years ago we insulated the roof inside to stop it getting condensation and dripping in cold weather.

We used a stack of carpet tiles bought cheap from a car boot sale, cut to size. Hasn't even got damp inside since, never mind hold water. They're still up there, still doing the job, even in this recent cold spell.

Oh, and we used Evo-Stick, the spirit-based type that stinks like hell.

Just our experience, mind.
