The one I got does not need a neutral. But installing it at the switch to use the existing switch defeats the object of a switch in a more convenient place.With a sonoff mini you can use the existing light switch wiring to manually switch the light on/off by connecting it to the S1,S2 terminals. The sonoff does need to be installed at the ceiling rose for this to work to use the neutral.



I have not ruled your suggestion out, but I only have 2 sockets in the hall and need 3 in most of the time ...so as you can see its hard enough. If I only had it lit when garage was up I reckon battery power would last long enough. Its one of these things that until you know what is available you cant think what suits you best.
