Mystery Carbide tip

Found a few of these lurking in a box of collectables, cant even remember when I got them.
So what holder would I need and what are they for?
Sandvik Coromant H13 K10 180 000210R1 is printed on the box
Do I buy the holder?
Flog them?
Weight them in
Or bin them?

Interesting that it appears to have only one cutting edge on a triangular. I cant guess what its for but wouldnt be difficult to make up a holder a d worth it for that many tips. Wont be worth much unless you can work out what its for and find a holder.

H13A suggests they're uncoated carbide, which is what gives them that look, and is a grade that has good toughness.

The K10 suggests they're intended specifically for semi-interupted cuts and roughing in cast iron.

My guess is they use the parallel side opposite the tip to ensure they don't turn.
Hadn't John @doubleboost . got one of those tools.

Shims would normally be fully formed on all but the cutting edge where as these are missing two of the three edges?

Why would anyone put 100 shims in incorrect boxes? To sell on ebay as inserts? If it were for personal or business storage you'd just keep shims in a bag.

Easy to test if carbide, they will cut/scratch a HSS tool bit. HSS or steel shims wont mark it.

Is there anywhere which details the history of the Sandvik logo?

The original ones are at least one logo revamp behind the ones Hood shows.

Knowing between which dates the logo was used might help to find technical information on them.

The challenge with Sandvik is a lot of it is proprietary, so you cannot buy a generic ISO holder and put their inserts into it.

You can braze them onto the end of a piece of steel.

Sandvick are the least obliging when it comes to out of production stuff .

Judging by the printing on the box, they are probably at least 30 years old. I wouldn’t bother finding a holder as the likely hood of finding another box is remote ,and technology has moved on considerably in the last ten years,let alone thirty

I buy plenty of NOS normal generic carbide lathe inserts.
Don't poo poo stuff that simply works, is the OP running a CNC lathe to the extreme ?
