For clarity, I need suggestions that I can go online and buy, without calling people up, setting accounts etc etc
I mention this as I know some chassis etc are glued now, but I won't actually be able to buy that, so it's not much good to me.
My problem -
Sunroof in the defender. It's rubbish. The glass is curved and the roof is flat so it's never going to work well. Im aware that a new seal will improve things and the winder is better than the cam closure, but I've made the choice to get rid of it, and got (as in already, so it's concluded) a new non-sun roof head liner.
I plan to get two sheets of alloy lazered. One the size of the hole, and one with an offset of an inch or two.
I plan on bonding them together initially, so I have a sheet with a stepped edge, and then taking the roof off, turning it upside down and putting it on something flat, with the back tilted up (as the sunroof hole is on the sloped section at the front) and weighting down the stepped section in the hole, whilst my adhesive (currently unknown) goes off.
Id love just to clamp it in situ, but I can really work out a reliable way to clamp it, given that I'd need massively deep throats on all of the clamps. I think it will be easier just to take the roof off, as it needs painting anyway.
So that's the plan. Oh, and I'll fill the joint before paint, and hope that the thermal expansion / contraction is no worse than any of the other joints (which probably all leak too - I'm considering 3m stone chip on the underside to try and resolve this)
But, yeah, glue -
Something with some gap filling (ie not super glue) that doesn't go off instantly l.
What's my best plan?
Again, I need to actually be able to buy it, so no formular one / nassa / military options that I can't actually buy!
Thank you.
