Has anyone else heard this absolute abortion of a song yet? Driving into work and geldof was on giving a long, boring monologue about the sheer brilliance of the producer, and then they played it…..
Dear god, I wasn’t a fan of the last two versions, but they’ve plumbed new depths of utter dross now

I read an article a while back, although I can’t seem to find it, about a journo whose career was pretty much destroyed because he warned geldof giving food was the wrong answer for africa. He’d spent a long time there and reasoned that if anything they should have been provided with the means to grow food, not just food itself in order to help stabilise things

a valid point after giving food there was a population explosion and compounded the problem

Do some reading before getting too carried away - it employs no-one, so more of donated cash goes where it's needed/asked for. Yes, it might need to change with the times, but then so do/have a lot of others. It's supplied money where others haven't, so it's still doing some good.

Which doesn't mean I listen to any of the records.

I enjoyed the energy and sentiment behind the first one and bought the single. Second one was about self promotion of those taking part and not a patch on the first, latest one I’ve not heard and no intention to do so.

I watched the documentary on the making of the original single last night, that was pretty interesting. Midge Ure seemed to do a lot of the studio direction work. Interesting to see people there that I hadn't realised were on the recording - Glenn Gregory from Heaven 17, for example - and a load of others I didn't recognise. And Bananarama turned up in a 3-door VW Golf, I'm sure they all got out of the back.

Friend of mine worked seismic oil surveys in darkest Africa. He told me some crazy tales of UN advisors and similar over entitled clowns riding around in brand new land rovers and generally having a good time, all expenses covered too.

Having multiple offspring is a sign of the males virility and manliness, and ego, in many turd world countries. Plus with high child mortality rates there’s always a few spares to carry on supporting the parents in old age.
