ChatGPT Plus - Subscription only?

Just tried getting ChatGPT to do some work for me..
I've hit the data allowance limit and it wants me to subscribe to 'Plus'

I'm sure I previously had "credits" with ChatGPT. I.e. one-off-card payment then the credits last until you had used them all up.
But all I can find now is a subscription at $20 per month.

I'd be happy enough with $20 for this one job to be honest but I don't want to forget about it for a year after that..

Does anyone know if there is still a way of accessing the credits system?
Or know how easy it is to cancel the subscription if you set one up?

I'll try this tonight, it does look like you can activate a subscription then cancel it stright away giving you a month's access for $20.

Not sure if it's a 28 day period or until the end of the calendar month but as its the 2nd today I should be ok!

Obviously you could cancel any time before the next billing period but I'll have forgotten all about it by next week and won't notice again for a couple of years...

Excuse the question, please, but I have no experience in this area, and had thought that the system was a curiosity, however, the fact that people are now paying to use it must mean that there are now real-world, tangible, benefits.

Can I ask, just out of curiosity, what you use it for that's worth of your payment?
