I can how useful it would be to waterproof a wiring joint where you can use heat shrink

I tried a small can when it first came out, had a brush in the can lid.
Not easy to get a good coverage, rather a droopy sloppy mess.
If they sold it in a spray can, I could see it maybe making a much better
coating on the wires.

A bit stringy, and likely not advisable to breathe the vapours, but it's handy enough.
Has a subsidiary use as a Bowden cable outer repair wangle, maybe with some fine cloth as well.

The solvent in it is very volatile, and once you open the can for the first time will evaporate quickly. So it is not a product you can put on the shelf and come back to in a year. It would be better packaged in sachets like ketchup. But at that price, you can use it once and throw away the rest.

Screwing the lid on tight works for me......

Liquid electrical tape is excellent in some situations, but not others. It will form seals with far better waterproofing qualities than can be achieved with ordinary electrical tape, but it doesn't have the mechanical scuff resistance that, say, self-amalgamating tape would have. It can be used to give a degree of compliant structural support, given the right surroundings. I've used it to waterproof cables passing through rubber grommmets, for example, usually requiring several applications, to build up some bulk.

In my experience, screwing the lid tightly only seemed partially effective, once opened, even if the lid mating surfaces were kept clean.

I get round the solvent evaporation issue by adding a homebrew liquid tape rejuvenator mixture, about 1ml at a time, as and when necessary. I did consider selling the mixture at one time.

I’ve used it and found it a bit messy.

Now if I need to I use hot glue instead. Green Bosch make a usb charged glue gun, I keep that in my tool bag.

It's based on the solvent mix used in the product, but with the proportions determined by their relative volatility. Heptane and methyl ethyl ketone form the bulk, with VM&P Naphtha, xylene, and ethylbenzene in relatively smaller amounts. Using this mix, the properties of the liquid tape seem to be maintained quite well right down to the bottom of the tin, and enables me to keep the liquid tape in a sweet spot, consistency-wise.

As a quick fix, maybe. I did try acetone, some years ago, but it's not ideal.

I'd be worried what that stuff, of unknown provenance, would do to the insulation long term (or any other plastic it came into contact with)

I used it to insulate a couple of "bus bars" I fitted to common up some switches in a panel I built for my Landy.

The two black lines near the top of this pic.

And for the inquisitive this was the other side.

I have a can, a different label/manufacturer, I use it when I've had to pierce an outer cover of a cable to check voltage (12/24 volt) or if I have a vehicle plug that's cracked/damp inside to seal up.

I haven't had any problems as yet.

The better stuff that costs more is pretty much guaranteed to br fresher, liquid and not horrible and unuseable.
Yes, I bought some of the Ali-x junk, it's total crap.
This is miles better and of the small jar of it I bought two years ago, the remainder is still perfeclly useable.
