For those in the know ...... tool tip holders ...help!

I've finally tracked down some carbide tool cutting tips to make size 10 ACME threads , can any of you guys who are more familiar with such things give me the code number for a tip holder that will fit a 12 to 14 mm QCT holder block ?
OR
Point me to where I can discover such things ?

Post a picture of what the tip looks like. It is impossible to say what holder you need without seeing the tip.

Are they left hand or right hand? External or internal?

Looks good to me.

For external a SERXXXXX16 (right hand) or SELXXXXX (left hand) tool holder should work.

You should then just chose the size toolholder 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm or 32mm.

Please note that tool also requires an insert shim to support the insert cutting edge properly and clearance the tool for your cut threads.

While what is said above is correct, it is not stated in a useful way. The post might equally say 'please note that the tool requires a screw to hold the insert to the tool body'. It is well-meaning, but irrelevant.

The tool is used with a shim. It will be impossible to buy the tool without the shim. The default shim it is supplied with will work for 90% of threads you would ever cut with it. You would only ever need a different spec. shim if doing something out of the ordinary (like cutting a very shallow or very steep helix - e.g cutting a 10tpi ACME thread on something 8" diameter) or if wanting to use your right hand insert to cut a left hand thred.

The shim bit is not essential starter reading, more for later on. What you buy will work out of the box.

One page (and only one page) of reading will be immediately useful to you for your 10tpi ACME thread. That is page E92 (page 93 of the pdf) in this:

It shows the (recommended) number of passes and infeed depth for your ACME thread.

If you do not like the Kennametal or Seco ones, all the leading insert manufacturers (Sandvik, Vargus, Iscar) have similar guides, so you can find one with which you are comfortable.
