I had a lovely red suede Momo on my first integrale - it really did feel nice. For a short while. It's quite surprising how much natural oil comes off your hands onto the wheel.

It cleaned up, but didn't feel the same. Cleaned it again and sold it. Had Momo leather one on it for the next six years or so - which has then spent the last 20 years on my evo 1 - allowed me to guide it nicely home this evening from work.

It will stay on till it last as I'm not willing to spend another day fitting a new one.

Mostly , the discovery that the sand muller is likely a bit underpowered .
There's some seriously demanding phases of sand preparation going on in there, when the sand gets up to a properly useful toughness.
Anyway , the motor capacitor decided that enough was enough this afternoon, so a bit of an enforced pause has occurred.
Still, much has been learned, and a rest will do no harm in the digestion of those lessons.....

Either 1/2 or 3/4 hp , depending on what BarOMix fitted to the Minor model.
English made, likely a Brooke Crompton Parkinson item.
No data plate, just a faded out sticker.
Might re - motor it, or go for a new capacitor to see if it perks up adequately......

Bought a 'lathe backplate' for minimal money off the home workshop site. The seller didn't know what it was for, but from his description I reckoned it was probably for a Smart & Brown Model 'A' or Model 'M' lathe. I've had an ER 32 collet chuck sitting on the shelf here for years waiting for me to get a 'Round Tuit' machine and mount it to a barely deep enough/not quite deep enough backplate rough casting that I've also had for ages. When my item turned up yesterday, it was actually a Smart & Brown catchplate; these would have been used with a pin sticking out which drives a lathe dog for between centres turning. So, as a result it's a fair a bit lighter casting than a backplate, but I reasoned that it would still be up to the job, as the collet chuck was never going to be getting a rough time.

Machining the backplate/catchplate revealed it to be tough stuff, definitely superior to the 'usual' cast iron. It probably won't get a lot of use as I do have quite a lot of the strange 'Hardinge' collets these earlier S & B lathes use, but occasionally, I still don't have the exact size I need, so the ER 32 chuck should be useful then. Anyway I'm quite pleased with the finished result.

Firstly, that corroded connections on a start capacitor do not help it to function.
Secondly, that cleaning said connections produces a remarkable increase in functionality.
Thirdly , and evolvingly so , that the power gradient between mulling dry sand and a seriously tough semi - plastic mass is most remarkably steep.
Ain't no doubt about it.....

Finished topcoat on some stairs.



Also did some plasma work... Now that I've finally got the machine torch I wanted.
I chopped up my spare TD 1torch lead, and soldered it up to a euro central connector socket. Now I can use both 1torch and central connector torches on my 80 amp TD seemed to work ok with a test cut by hand!



Lastly I started an adapter for the plasma table torch holder, to take it from 40mm OD to 35mm OD for the new torch. I happened to have some alloy seamless pipe lying around, so a little bit of machining later, it's a snug fit. Just need to cut some slots in it and get a suitable clamp.

Perhaps try having a trailing roller arm that easily rises and falls on the coarser stuff , so it does not take so much current like you fixed roller does ????

Static phase converters if required .
As the muller is evolving , I'll stick with the single phase arrangement for the time being , as there are other areas that need delving into , mostly concerning the 'tillage' implements.
It's all rather peculiar in its requirements, and it seems that the sand requires bursting up after the roller has passed over it , or it sort of ' over -mulls' as it were.
I'll put on a longer toolbar today, which will enable much more scope and multiplicity in that regard.

They are a pair of pins so I can replace the old, worn out door check rollers on the drivers door on my Jeep ZJ

Small trolley for a heavy (to me) arc welder. Anyone got a couple of spare swivel castors?

Went skip diving and found two more swivel castors for free. Painted the frame (tractol enamel) and hardened it off near the fireplace. Cut and fitted some pallet slats. Job done. Cost me about £2 total.

It's a complex challenge, with several variables in all dimensions.

Got the toolbar breaker chisel ploughs bronze -welded on today though.
Only mild steel, but they will do for assessment purposes....

Riser block and plate to mount a QCTP to a mini lathe. This allows me to swap toolholders between this lathe and my Harrison M300 without resetting tool height. The lathe cost me about £100 and I'm finally getting it back into action. There's a 1.5kW motor fitted to the rear.
