And that immortal question, provided asked a million times by various numpties in airports, in various connotations:

“Has anybody put anything in your bag that you don’t know about?”

Indeed !

I got asked something similar ( somebody put a brick through the window of a pub I was living in as caretaker / night watchman), I'd heard raised voices - police turned up and had a look around then asked "You say you heard somebody when they were out of sight in the alcove by your front door - can you describe what the person looked like?"
I'll resist giving more details about that visit in case I end up on the forum naughty step

It amused me on the ESTA form one of the questions was "Do you seek to engage in terrorism?" If I did, the US Government would be the last people I'd tell.

You say that, yet on one of the K1200LT groups where sales are banned we have a set of questions; one being "Do you have parts for sale?". Quite often the applicant ticks 'Yes, I do.'.

Filling in the old USA form on the plane 25 yrs ago, "moral turpitude" worried me . . .

Have to say all my recent exchanges with US immigration and customers, either in Dublin or SeaTac, have been polite, friendly, even amusing. So many trips last few years, they were recognizing me in the queue, and certainly the lovely ladies at check in .

Yes, in the rules that the applicant has agreed to follow.

Besides that, it helps to weed out the scammers. That one was just such a perfect example, at an opportune moment! If it otherwise looked OK, they would just go on pre-mod, but that one just screamed "Ban me on sight", even before the profile was looked at.

Oh yes, seen that many times. Other groups too can be instructive, often consisting of mostly trading groups and nothing whatever relevant to the subject.

Not in the USA. The usual response is “please fall in line, sir” barked at you, whilst pointing to the back of whatever queue you’re hoping to skip.

I’ve even been ordered to “Place your feet on the line sir” when I was stood at the front of the queue in immigration.

The TSA really are a power unto themselves.

8 years since I was last there, so maybe they’ve changed totally…..

My Chicago transfer was fun...plane lands...go through passport exit control...wait to collect bags...depart terminal!

Walk to other terminal (dragging bags)...check in luggage...go through passport control.

Oh no I've missed the connection...how on earth did that happen!

I don't let it bother me - airline will put me on the next flight - usually upgraded Many years ago, in Chicago, immigration agent stepped out of his cubicle, hand on gun, to insist a German tour group waited in line as they were jumping the line to remain together.

If they let people jump the line, some poor sod would be stuck there until they close the place continually being bypassed, so I have no real problem with it.

Although Chicago was where I was asked for my passport by a very nice lady, who then took me down past all the lines, opened a locked door, took me through, me expecting the rubber glove inspection ext, presented me with my passport and "have a good day sir" . . . a few more hours waiting for my connection, but I had bypassed a long queue.

Airline staff are usually pretty good in helping if you do need to get to a connection etc.

The thing that does bother me if I think about it - the total inconsistency in shoes on/off, everything in one box, separate boxes for every thing, why haven't my trousers set the alarms off this time (zips in all directions).

Been a while since my checked luggage was opened too - I tie the zips together with zip-ties , with some spare in the case, especially the toolbox, with a note to say thanks and could they re-tie it please - been a few years since they were used.

I suppose it depends what part you are selling .
