HOW FSKING MUCH!!!!

I called in yesterday to pick up a gallon of Aspen to make sure no rubbish petrol is left in the two stroke tools over the winter. You could have knocked me down with a feather HOW bloody much!!!! This was a gallon, okay five litres but I think I need to be measuring it by the millilitre from now on, twenty six quid. I will not be buying any more.

£26. The stuff is good for 5 years IME. That's about a fiver a year not to have gummed up carbs. Spread across how many tools? How long will it take you ungum a carb etc?

You might not think it cheap but it looks like good economics from here

Good idea.

More important to also consider the ethanol content at the pump.

This is why I use super unleaded in my 2 stroke as in my local stations it is still ethanol free.

I filled the 2T can up last week, thought I'd try Shell V power 5% instead of the cheap 10% stuff. Turns out I still had a litre of the old stuff left in another can, which I havent finished, and next we have a week off
I dont believe there are any pumped petrol stations left in England that have zero ethanol?

Anyway no need to use Aspen, drain out the tank, squirt the primber bulb until its empty, tip the last bit out and briefely run the tool. There will be nothing left in the carb to become gummed up.

I use my tools every other day or week. I drain them out each time tho I dont usually run them after, but I would if they were being stored.



I am yet to find any details of how exactly the fuel stabilisers work. I dont believe they do what they claim - They often claim to remove water, how? From the tank? Perhaps they absorb water or reject water, or chemically convert it to something else.

Add enough water to the fuel and the ethanol will drop out, the water will seperate, in theory leaving the top layer of zero water zero ethanol petrol.

I took a Stihl saw on a plane. Rang up airline first to check what was required and was told to run until all fuel used up rather than simply tipping up the fuel tank to empty.

Would that take care of any fumes that might be left if you just tip the fuel out ?

I'm sure I'm the odd one out. I have five two stroke machines. I don't do anything to them. They often get fuel left in them, sometimes that will be over winter. Only one has ever needed a carb rebuild. That's over 20+ years of use.

Same. 4T too, loads of stuff gets abandoned over winter, or a few winters. They seem fine afterwards with no special care

Ditto. The Stabil Marine version and a double dose into the genset at the start of the winter, single dose after that when I refill. Haven't had a problem starting either of them yet.
