You might find that as you try to take action shots at faster shutter speeds a faster lens becomes more useful .( suck eggs time if you already knew)

Sucking eggs is a good description, if I want to argue about how to take a photo I will go on Facebook, I'd rather not do it here

Wrong end of the stick time !! who wanted to argue just trying to be helpful even to the extent of tacitly apologising for my comments if you already knew. Difficult to assess the competence or knowledge of people when trying to be helpful .

A friend got interested in photography when we used to scuba dive. He went from there to aircraft, big time!.

Never understood plane spotters, used to see them camped up at Heathrow 24/7. Hundreds of planes a week land there,have done for years and will do way into the future. Can’t see what they get out of it

One of my collecting joys is spotting placenames from The Meaning of Liff by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd.

It's the same with any hobby, Mrs Robo was a bus driver for 20 years and told me about the group of "anoraks" that would gather at the main bus handover point in Birmingham to take photo's and write down numbers.

Being honest, your advice was "buy the expensive lens, it's better"

Something that just winds me up, it's a pointless comment and the same as the "you must upgrade to mirrorless" brigade

I was just trying to share something that some folk would be interested in, others less so, a study of photography it was not

I have a short video of a Lancaster bomber flying over Cosford model aircraft show a few years ago. I just pointed my ancient iPhone 7 upwards and filmed one handed, fully expecting to capture a blurred wobbly rubbish video. When I played it back later I my gob was smacked at how clear and shake free it came out.

And from what I’ve seen of pics from a mates brand new iPhone 27, or whatever it is now, the modern cameras are streets ahead of what mine has.

I was trying to capture the moon a few weeks ago, when it was full and about to eclipse. My pics were garbage, but my mates were incredible.

There was a documentary 20 years ago that asked 4 pro photographers to take series of pic's with phones and "proper" cameras( top end stuff) and came to the conclusion that it was the content that mattered not the quality of the photo. The message was that the pic had to tell a story.

I was a teenage trainspotter in the 70's, used to travel the length and breadth of the country, I went to London a few times but never saw any of the "sights" as I was travelling by tube to various stations and depots.

Was it this one?, I saw it on it's maiden flight at the large model show at Cosford in the 90's, unfortunately it crashed soon after takeoff

No, it was a real Lancaster, doing a fly by.
There were some really impressive, and huge, models there. One four engined jet, about 20’ long, the commentator was relating how the jet engines in it cost over £10k each.

The show has now moved to Sleap aerodrome I believe.

The Mach loop guys are a whole new world of weirdos-beware! They think it’s their sole duty in life to be the Mach loop police, which led to the RAF being banned from flying there for a good while after one of the “enthusiasts” reported a pilot for climbing/rolling out on reheat (a major no no unless and emergency) and provided video proof. Anyone with an ounce of brains would have put the video in the “jolly good show” folder and just carried on seeing aircraft being hooned around.

Exact same reason as train spotters. Someday a train will get lost and the army of spotters will immediately leap into action by comparing badly-written scribbles determine where it was last seen, thus thwarting the plans of an international gang of train thieves.
