Should have had an X1C today!

Courier took a photo outside our gate a minute into the delivery window and said unable to deliver despite us being in. Took it away and we've rescheduled.

I reckon it's because it's heavy and they couldn't be ar5ed carrying it up to the house.

I've done quite a few prints this weekend. I'm totally new to 3d printing so I'm not qualified to give a review, but I have to say the machine has been a pleasure to use and I'm very happy with the print quality on standard settings. The vertical sides of prints have been flawless with the machine sat on carpet. I had one poor print when the machine was sat on the hard bench. I think the carpet damps vibration maybe and gives a better result? Perhaps the machine has just bedded in? I'd happily buy this again. No buyer's remorse yet. The software has been easy to use and it has brought my Fusion 360 skills and confidence on a lot too.

I like the built-in camera. There's been no reason to monitor the prints though, as they have all been fine.

It makes me appreciate CNC so much more. I started trying to learn Fusion 360 a few years ago for this very reason. The potential for plasma cutting sheet etc which is light years ahead of doing it by hand. I'm happy to cut box section and tube with saws of various descriptions as this is fairly straight forward, but the CNC control on flat sheet is fantastic. I appreciate watching the CNC mills now too. So much potential out there if you can draw it and afford the hardware too alas......

After quite a bit of hummin'n'harring, the sale finally suade me to jump in. So I've just received my P1S combo. Haven't had chance to do more than unpack it yet, but it looks like a 'proper' bit of kit compared to what I've had before. Not sure if I really need the AMS bit, but I think being able to switch to a new filament reel during a print, rather than run out, will drastically cut down on the number of reels with next to nothing on them that I have kicking around, and will keep SWMBO a little happier. The only down side I can see so far is her insistence in calling it Bambi ;o)

Enders are still hard to look past for cost and availability of aftermarket options, but you do need to be willing to learn about 3D printing and how to get the best from the printer.
However if you just want something that'll work, it would be hard to suggest anything other than a Bambu A1 at the moment.

Multicolour is going to add significant cost, regardless of the base printer.

Would agree as above enders are good.
But would look bambu a1 or a1mini instead as find the bambu lab very impressive,
Ams is available for both machines if wanted to go to multicolour prints.

Hmmmm...

At 248 euros (so probably fewer quids) the Ender3 V3 KE is hard to beat. I'm getting one as soon as I can find a sponsor. At the moment I'm struggling to get a Chinese EZT3D-T1 to work, since it's not supported by any slicer I have tried and I don't have the original SD card for it.

Hmmmm...

Yep but also think about what your printing.

Ams colour changes can purge alot of waste on prints.

And all comes down to what your planning on printing.
Not many times have I needed over the size of 200mm. But is handy for when do even though cutting and glueing items together is always an option.

Well, I don't know why I'm surprised but this forum blows me away every time I ask about something obscure. @Onoff, thank you so much. I have spent days searching for anything related to the printer and that repo is a gold mine.

An aside but I'm very glad I bought my lad the Anycubic i3 Mega S circa 5 years ago.

A Prusa clone, he has learnt so much on the electrical, electronic and engineering side from tinkering and upgrading it. Still prints well tbh.

I see him getting the Bambu X1C now as a sort of treat to himself (we went halves but it's his). He's got the basics plus under his belt and the accompanying underlying knowledge. A kid getting a Bambu as their first printer I don't think would need to learn much about the mechanics which is a bit sad in some respects.

First big print, 3hrs each for the column /turntable and 40m for the top with my speed settings.

A1 mini is what I was thinking about until I found a prusa mini+ 2nd hand for £180 with a load of extras, for colour printing you can just add a change code at whatever layer required and then swap the filament manually (only takes a minute) or setup profiles

If you go for a single head extruder printer it's gonna be wasteful for colour change as has to purge but ultimately it's much cheaper than a multi head and takes up less space.

The 180x180x180 build space might seem small but it's still plenty for most items usually hand sized and you can always split models into chunks and glue together (there's even a new feature in prusaslicer for alignment pins to help)

Bambu labs is new and pretty good but proprietary software/hardware when prusa is open source and user friendly as massive community behind it helping each other although high machine cost but that's because they're ready to work from the factory instead of requiring tweaking like enders

I would have bought it at that price. The P1S was only £200 less than that when I bought mine and the X1C was nearly £1600!

I paid £979 in last year's black Friday sale.
so maybe worth waiting another month??
