Off Piste ! The mention of the Shoe Bomber reminded me of a guy who worked with us who one day mentioned that he was the shoe bombers step father .We never bothered to check as soon afterwards he was found recording the conversations in our office and as we all refused to work with him I escorted him off the premises and he was " asked" to tender his resignation. As he dressed as a failed semi cowboy he was called "Bungalow Bill" by the contractors he dealt with as they reckoned he had nothing "upstairs".

Not any more, it's all the same sickly yuck now despite them promising not to mess with and and keep all production here. There are far nicer products available at lower prices, so Cadbury has not and will not be featuring in any shopping I do.

Came back from CH with a helicopter blade damper in hand luggage it is about 100mm x 140 and circular with an extension either end went through Xray no problem the 7/16af socket in my pocket was a different story

I must have a honest face, I’ve never had any problems at an airport although I travelled to Spain just before Christmas in the late 80s for a parachuting holiday , some of my mates took their parachutes on the plane as hand luggage as the previous year some of their rigs went missing for a few days when they went as hold luggage . On entering the plane the look on the stewardess’s faces was one of shock, one of my mates piped up saying “ it’s alright, I have flown Air Iberia before” We got a few odd looks that trip!

flying out of bristol in july my carry on bag got pulled aside and they pulled my dual shielded hdmi cable out and swabbed it. obviously looked 'odd' in the scanner.
on the way back both me and dad got the full pull aside and pat down.
dad commented he couldn't understand why they where more careful with the searches leaving turkey than entering.
to which i said, they probably aren't looking for people smuggling drugs INTO the middle east......

We got searched (sigh) at Newhaven on our return from a long hippy trip around Europe.
Usually hippies = drugs but not us, pretty thorough search but they didn't find the tiny tortoise in the heater vent.
We picked it up soon after it hatched on a Greek beach about 1:1/2" across, as they would hide under parked car wheels and get crushed, so we rescued it.
It's 55 yrs old now and doing very well.

About 25 years ago I was at a protest in London against the arms fair, I was with 10 odd young lasses from Bristol. I was given a cardboard AK47 which said stop arms trading or somesuch. I kept it as a souvenir in my live in truck.
Got pulled driving my hippie truck through customs at Plymouth going to France in the heights of foot and mouth.
Anything to declare ? No.
Shone torch in the back and spotted the cardboard AK47 with Stop Gun Running written on it, said what's that ? I said it's cardboard.
He then found kitchen knives, in the kitchen, an axe, chainsaw, etc.
Said, don't take them on when you're on the ferry.
We had a laugh, and continued on our ways.

my mate had two varios, one adapted out of a kobo so bare wires dangling out of it, sat navs, GPS. altimeters walkie talkies.

He eventually made it to the plane with all his kit.

Only been stopped a couple times...as above stay calm and be polite...how you respond will dictate how they're thinking
Once had a dog make a bee line across the terminal towards me....that was a bit scary. They asked me if I was carrying cash...had about 500 euros on me. Dog was a noob...he'd been finding money all morning apparently

Recently I took half a 1918 Indian Power Plus petrol tank as hand luggage on two flights, first to Singapore and then a week later on to Sydney where I posted it to the ebay buyer in Adelaide, no one every questioned it and both countries are quite strict! previously a good mate brought a 1914 Hedstrom Indian frame with swinging arm attached as luggage from California to Heathrow for me, he made a wooden box with castors and a handle on top, looked like a dog's coffin, I told him to write RIP Fido, best dog ever on it but he declined, he had no trouble, previously he brought me a set of wheel rims for my 1929 Dodge, taped together and wrapped in card they looked and x-rayed like an empty squat oil drum, they did get held up both ends and had to be delivered to my house by taxi at the airlines expense! Many Many years ago I was detained by the Murder squad at Dover as I was importing a bark BMW in the name of Herr Kupper and the computer flagged it up as possibly something to do with the murder of Suzy Lamplugh about 8 years before, apart from that I often have to strip off at airport security due to two titanium shoulders, rod in my right tibia and a screws in my left wrist...........
