My trusty 16' Ifor Williams tilt bed is suffering from a very bad case of wood rot! (It is stored outside and no cover over the bed). I need to replace the bed. From some research the ideal solution is 18mm Phenolic Ply, except in the wild west of Trowbridge, nobody stocks it within a reasonable distance and if you want it delivered, I'll have to sell an organ!
I have had bad experience with WBP ply (granted it was Wickes) as it delaminated in very short order. I do have two sheets of 8x4 aluminium chequer plate that I plan to cut into 2' lengths for the wheel tracks, I know it can get slippery, but it will offer some protection to the floor (whatever it is) if I seal it and only leave a narrow strip exposed in the centre of trailer.
I have seen suggested WBP, then cover with bitumen on the side that faces the road and the edges, seal it in the trailer and waterproofer on the surface facing up. As it's a tilt bed, I suppose if I leave it slightly tilted, water may run off rather than pool?
What are the thoughts of the hive mind?
Cheers
Peter
