Reminds me, one day my landlord's friend had an argument with him and started trashing his house and on her way out she kicked my bike over. Cbr600 with standard OEM Honda levers. Shortly later I rode it and coming to a stop, the brake lever fell off in my hand. Lucky I was only at a slow junction and not coming to a enthusiastic stop on a fast road! Rear brake was sufficient to get me home.

I did not replace them with Honda originals! I went with import CNC machined folding types, which if you do crash ( I have) will fold or bend rather than brittle fracturing.

Now you mention brake lever falling off. I had a gentle off at C.Combe with almost no damage . Rode the bike back to paddock and gave it a "thorough" check. First lap in next race and in second place right up the leaders backside going into last corner to find complete front brake master cylinder was laying in the fairing . Got away with it and still was only beaten into 3rd place on last corner of last lap. Biggest problem was to avoid making it obvious that I had no F/Brake to the marshals.

A US friend of mine has a story about riding a '69 Kawasaki H1 helmetless, just about to join the flow of traffic over the Golden Gate bridge when a praying mantis smashed him in right between the eyes. He managed to coast to a stop at the side of the road, and as he took his hands from the grips to wipe the guts out of his eyes both bars simultaneously snapped off.

I had a job like that from a porche door handle, it didn't weld either, although I hate the stuff, some sort of epoxy metal might do you could drill it and put in a few small dowels for extra strength

I agree, technoweld, lumiweld etc. but get the base metal hot enough to melt the rod, don't melt the rod in the flame, the issue is that you only have about 10 degrees between hot enough and silver shoes / brown pants!

If you make a steel former you can have better control as it doesn't stick to steel I believe.

I've gad a fair amount of luck using this on chinese cast ornaments that wouldn't weld
