Just watch out for the flaps with magnets , pals cat was off his food then I noticed every time he went to eat he got stuck to the metal food bowl

I bunged my cats outside because I was going to do some painting and didn't want them to get covered in paint. About 2 minutes later there was a terrific banging and clattering from the back door, one of them had decided it didn't like being outside despite the fact that it was warm and sunny and smashed its way through the locked cat flap leaving a trail of broken plastic and wood in its wake and sat looking smug on the window cill that I was intending to paint. It never did get painted.

He was a cat that turned up one day , he was being super friendly and hanging out all day then he tried to live in the fridge and repeatedly meowed.

I think the cat flap ended up on locked or open in the end , magnet collars are a bit problematic for random things to get stuck on as @Pigeon_Droppings2 says.

I am more concerned about your use of the plural.

How will you train the cat to know which of the two is entry and which is exit?

“Train?” “Cat?” A law unto himself. One-way lock is useless, as he’s learnt how to hook the door backwards and get out anyway.

Also, daft springer likes to stick his head out and see what’s going on. Many times, I’ve been greeted by a front door with spaniel head motif, and bits of cat flap scattered over the front step. That’s why I want a decent one.

One bonus of having an eejit dog is, I won’t get trouble with ‘foreign’ cats coming in. If they do, they’ll be met with an energetic dog, who wants to play but doesn’t know how. Quite fun to watch how the body language of the two species doesn’t coincide.

For example: a wagging tail does NOT mean your feline guest is happy! Setting yourself playfully, then capering about like a prat will only serve to irritate it further.

I’ve been to Lewis and Harris - does it not get a bit, er, draughty with a 5-inch hole in your wall?

There's wooden tubular open ended boxen on either side of the wall so there's a bit of baffling. The house needs some ventilation, it's very well insulated and sealed and the stove has to breathe too. I did wonder what it would be like with no cat flap but it's not really noticeable.

There may even be an MDF or ply core in that bottom panel. Mark and cut away I would. Put the new catflap in with a decent, white exterior silicone. I used clear, Dow 791 when I did ours.

Our microchip one is tbh a bit high I think. Dictated by the circular adapter / glass edge distance. That and the door sill sits high anyway. Young cat manages fine. Old cat not so sure. I'm going to knock up a disabled ramp.

Saying that it's just wedged open at the mo as neither cat has been "paired" with it. Closed at night.

I have a petsafe smart catflap, you can set it one way, two ways, closed completely, scheduled etc.
Except 1 of my cats worked out when it was set inward only, they could hook their claw into the edge of the flap and open it inwards as if it was pushing to come in from outside, to then escape out past curfew when the flap was set inbound only to capture them all for the night. And the status of which cat is home is completely broken by this & I think the little sod showed the others the trick too, so now we have to check they're all in then put something heavy blocking it from egress anyway.
I keep swearing I'm going to replace its insides with a arduino or esp32, and put two sensors inside and out so I can see which side of the cat door the cat is on to defeat this. One day...
We used to find that particular cat inside the kitchen cupboards as a kitten when he had opened them and got inside and had to fit child locks to them. Just a bit too curious, and a bit too intelligent.

I should add that my cat wanders over a range of at least a 3 mile radius from the house and is frequently gone for a night or two. One of spawn's cats will disappear for a week at a time. Meh, 'tis what cats do and if it doesn't come back I might get another one.

First you have to show why Australia is "down" when it's on a globe in an endless void. Only then can their grass roots be considered
