How does 2 stroke primer work please?

What compression tester do you use for these small engines? I have an old one for cars but doubt its any good in 25cc 2T's.

id 2nd this ive got 3

a cheapy ebay that is more than carp
a gunson one that id expected more of as that is sh*t as well comes with random ranges when used never the same twice
the last an old snapon on but its a push in type not screw in spot on but hard to use

Makes me wonder though about this trimmer. How could both the fuel filter be loose and the primer bulb hooked up the wrong way around? Here was the description



I'll tell you how. Misrepresentation. The seller knew the engine was plumb worn out so elected to create a primer issue and sell it off as spares or repair on that basis.

Call me skeptical but how else do you explain the old primer bulb being connected back to front....

Anyway paid £125 for the saw and if a piston kit fixes it I'll still be happy.

Only took about 10 mins to tear this thing down to see the cylinder. That's not speaking of my expertise - not at all.Just a great design of machine! I had to know about the cylinder condition!







Original Stihl cylinder still on it and no scoring or other damage.

So it's perfectly serviceable I will get a new Golf piston kit for it and scuff the bore up a little before fitting. That should bring the compression back to near new and go from there.

I used a Draper car one when I was rebuilding my Stihl hedge trimmer. It read 120 psi which I'm told is not bad for a 20 year old machine. Runs fine now.

On this HS56, I ended up realising that the genuine parts for this particular trimmer are quite cheap!

I ordered a new genuine Stihl full cylinder and gasket kit for just over £40 delivered. So for the extra 20 odd £ VS an aftermarket piston I will replace the full cylinder kit.

It's my first time discovering this site:

That's the price of the cylinder kit for example. Some places are £43 - £47 for it. They listed as £26 which was correct.

I phoned today to asked about stock and because their website didn't recognise NI for postage.

They were very helpful and said whilst not in stock they checked stock with Stihl UK when I was on the phone and they have one so they will be able to send it on to me early next week and so my order is placed.

Their prices all seem the best I have found so far for Stihl spares maybe others too.
