Yea, would need to be some kinda hard coating that wouldn't go soft or melt with the heat, I was wondering about stove paint? The internal surfaces act as reflectors, keeping the microwave energy within the oven. So long as the corroded surface still has a thickness of decent metal and not holed by rust, you should be good. Clean it back to metal, and enamel paint should be good. If you can, disassemble to get at the other side of the corrosion and do the same.
I don't know why it hasn't been arcing, maybe the rust is acting like it does when we attach our welding return clamps to rusty metal, just won't work.I'd make sure that you remove all of the rust. Microwaves are a bit like black magic. It's not inconceivable that you could get arcing within the rust patch, if it's very flakey.
Did you know microwaves were first used to defrost hamsters during cryogenic experiments.
Is nobody going to suggest welding in a new roof?I still heated my dinner with it earlier today.
A good working 800w microwave, but alas, time for a new one.

Would still need some sort of coating. Is nobody going to suggest welding in a new roof?![]()

I once heated a cup of butter and milk to pour over the potatoes, spuds wern't ready so it was left for some time, maybe 20 mins, cup had gone cold and the butter had formed a seal over the milk, set microwave for a minute and boom! Cleaning in progress.Tinned chilli is good as are baked beans, soup etc if you forget to stir halfway through.
