Metric hydraulic hose

Hey hey. I've written this post really quickly so pls excuse the lack of research on the topic.

I'm retro fitting power steering to my buggy, I've fitted a powered steering box (the hard bit), and am working on mounting the pump. The hydraulic hose needs to be 1m with an M14 banjo on one end and M16 on the other. Getting such a hose made is coming to £65 which I think is expensive due to the metric fittings. A premade 1m hose costs £12 on eBay with BSP ends. I've tried to find some banjos with BSP tails but no luck in this size. I'm thinking I may just use imperial banjos that are the close in size.

Thought I'd reach out in case anyone has any money saving ideas for this.

Local hose man van waving some notes would be my first port of call.

Otherwise just use 1/2 or 9/16 & 5/8 banjos and drill out as required.
Just make sure you blow any drilling swarf out of the hose and maybe even flush some fluid through it.

If you want to get fussy you could probably get bsp/metric adaptors to join Metric banjos to Imperial hose but if your that fussy you'd just buy the right hose..

I've done a bit more Googling. Metric banjos are available with JIC threads. JIC pre-made hoses are cheap, £12.

Yeah it's just committing money and getting the length right. Hydraulic hose doesn't measure up nicely when routing around a chassis. When I had the brake hoses done, the shop was kind enough to send me the hoses crimped on one end and loose on the other so I could test fit and cut to length. I sent the hoses back and they crimped the remaining end.

I'm making a set out of AN-6 Teflon hose.

AN-6 to M18 / M16 adapters out of steering rack / pump then hand made Teflon lines with AN-6 hose ends.

A bit more expensive than your £65 but the lines can be made exactly how long you want, whikw you are running them in the bay.

I always use Torques (on Ebay) for all my AN kit.

For the amount of messing about (and future ease to make a replacement line), not worth penny pinching imho..

The line is £11 meter, Teflon lined, stainless overbraid with plastic outer coating. The ends are £8 iir so a 1meter line will probably be around £30 to make.

You can by straight hose ends or 90⁰ etc if required (these are a little more expensive).

Interesting. I wan't certain if AN hose could be used for power steering where I have 1100psi pressure, so I skipped over this idea. As you say, being able to do-it-yourself if useful if you ever need to make future mods. What are you using your hoses for ?

I may send back the JIC banjos and hydro hose and use AN hose and fittings which I can cut to length and assemble myself, modify in the future as this is a constantly changing build, and it looks neater and more compact. Thanks for the idea, I was really hesitating posting my question but it paid off

The goodridge stuff is good for at least 4000psi
Fittings come in standard or high pressure versions.
But I expect the banjos alone will be more than the £65..

The Banjos were £14 each. So the hose has coated but the benefit is reusability, if I mess up the routing or have to change parts of my steering system I can reuse the parts.

The Torques pipe is 2500 psi working pressure and Minimum 6000 psi burst pressure.
