Cavity Wax, Best Way

I have always used either Dinitrol or Dynax cavity wax aerosols, but wonder if using a special spray gun will give much better coverage. Because it's in cavities it isn't the easiest thing to tell how well it's going on, so using what's accepted as the best way is all you can really do.

Does anyone use one of these, I have seen them sold be various companies range from £35 upto this, and they all look identical.

Are these one of the better guns/ways to apply the wax or are there better (home use) guns?

yes thats a good gun , in honesty probably no better coverage than a decent rattle can , but you have the option to turn the pressure up or down , spray thin or thicker products or own recipes etc

good deal if you can find that for £30 , paid more than that years ago for mine

I've had a Sealey version for 30 years or so, which was the only one available back in the day.

It's a great job for cavities but a cheap spray gun puts a better (thinner) coat on the outside so I don't waste as much wax.
The trigger can stick, but it's easy to clean, and the quick release connection can eventually leak, but again are replaceable.

I assume the £30 one is a Chinese copy, so the fittings etc might not be Rectus but it's only a pressure pot and a trigger.
The more expensive ones might just be rebadged cheap ones, it's hard to tell until you try it out.

Yeah, that was the impression I was getting, and sellers mark it up as much as they think they can get away with!

I have one too. To be honest unless you are doing a few cars I would just use the cans and get some extension pipes. I think the coverage from Dintrol cans is pretty good but you pay more per ltr.

I have one - I would say its way better than aerosols. Better spray, longer reach, more controllable, more reliable. And of course, cheaper on consumables - and you can use what you want, tip the excess back in to the original container, for use another day. It just works, any angle, any temp, anywhere.

I have up on dinitrol stuff - now use Noxudol. Seems to work very well.

Imo, get a cheap gun, with a bit of pipe on the end and find a waxoyl product you don't mind using lots of. Wave the wand in and out of everywhere you can, from every angle you can, lots of times. Even then you'll probably not get full coverage. So repeat again annually or every couple years, just a light coat to rewet and hopefully cover bits missed on previous goes.

If you buy the most expensive gun and most expensive product, hoping for full coverage and complete protection, it'll potentially fail on the some of the few poor coverage bits. It's only as good as the bits missed!

I bought a waxoyl gun and hose and it works a treat. The waxoyl is long gone with all the things I have mixed in there. It was cheap.

Wear respiratory protection aerosolising all these oils.

The waxoyl one? Yes. It's very good actually. I don't think there's a need to spend a fortune on something to spray oily stuff

I have what I think you are calling a "waxoyl gun" - use it for spraying underseal etc which it does well. Found it hit and miss at spraying cavity wax - too cold, too thick, had to be held at the right angle, couldn't extend the flexible pipe much beyond the 18" it came with before the bernoulli effect it uses started to fail.

The pressure pot type was well worth the 75 quid mine cost me simply in not wasting time and effort - fill it, connect it up and use it.

I've got this 500mm extension with a side spray nozzle end that was a cheapie ebay purchase I think - that IIRC can screw onto my cheapie Shutz gun
(I just keep an empty old Shutz underseal can to pour whatever Gloop into to be able to apply)

I completely went away from them and just use the Bilt Hamber S50 aerosols that already come with a similar extension tube to the above.

Had them try 'em at work too for motorhome chassis and they've ditched messing around heating waxoil and a gun for the same S50 aerosol setup, works as well if not better than the heated waxoil and gun did but much faster and no faffing around heating in the cold months.

Schutz gun. That's what I was referring to above by wayoyl gun. Works really well. I stick any old oily type stuff in it and it sprays really well.

That's a shame, cos I've never used the extension. I was hoping it'd be useful.

I have been under the Renault Master today. Overall its pretty good for a nearly 16yo van... but there is some corrosion by the front jacking boxes and around the rearmost back axle leaf spring carriers.
I need to treat and protect before the winter salt for sure - so these bits of kit I'd think would get an airing.
(I did buy a Lamosil Kit when there was an offer on months back with an applicator - no idea if I'm doing the right thing if I sprayed that stuff on or not tbh)

Odd. Mines a grubby thing but works well.

I must admit I used an Aldi Ferrex blow gun a bit like this red one below. When I had my arch liners out I removed the sill grommets and fired ACF-50 up there.
