Clutch issues any one had this?

2012MK5 golf 1.6 Diesel
Clutch pedal goes to floor, recovered to garage new master cylinder fitted, lasts a couple of days pedal going to floor but pick it up again and it works, garage fit new slave cylinder so £400 in now.
This morning after short drive pedal to floor even if you pick it up again no pedal pressure AA tow to garage who say clutch is worn and gone heavy causing cylinder to fail so needs new clutch?

Rubbish it sounds like they fitted a cheap pattern slave cylinder and they are known for failing. If they then tell you its another problem, they get more money...
Not fit for purpose. Get them to replace the slave cylinder or get credit card company involved.

id have said clutch pedal ratchet spring as that shows same symtons

if the clutch and cylinder is fine

from what i read you have been charged the high price then now its going to be a new clutch so has anyone checked the ratchet on the pedal itself ?

I recently had to replace a clutch after 25k but the symptoms were different as was the car. That's not that uncommon a problem on a well worn clutch but unless they were 55,000 really hard miles, I'd be surprised.

I can’t see how a worn clutch can go “heavy”?

I could see how a broken one might require more force to operate if the spring fingers are being jammed up somehow, or the operating lever/fork if it’s an external slave.

The seal on the pressure pipe where it goes into the master cylinder can get damaged very easily and give exactly the same symptoms. Guess how I know!

Concentric Slave? In which case it has probably failed again.
Apparently as with many car parts thesedays, new ones are only expected to last long enough to drive it out of the garage forecourt...

Cheap parts used or one of the seals on the ends of the pipe is bad.
I only fit genuine VW, luk or sachs clutch parts on VWs and always replace the seals with new ones

I understand LUK closed down their manufacturing and apparently it has all been shipped out to China, predictably the failure rate has gone through the roof since.
I know one place that has been forced to stop stocking them as it wasn't worth the hassle on returns. Shame as they used to be my go to for clutch stuff.
Schaeffler (who own LUK) have also done the same for INA too.

Damn it, im fed up with the quality of parts being utter carp now. It used to be you get what you pay for (more or less) and which brands to avoid. Now it seems it's just impossible to get non dealer parts that are any good no matter how much they cost. All seems to be in the last few years.

Does anyone know where the big reset button is?
