suds pump bearing replacment?

I'm assuming it will have 608 stamped on it and be the right size, but who knows!

I’m far from an expert but I think you’ve searched for 6008 not 608.
The second pic shows the sizes on your eBay listing and the first is 608 from simply bearings. I can’t see a 8x22x7 on your eBay listing. I could very easily be wrong.
Which bearing number did you choose.

I'm just surprised if the bearings are both the same size they didn't just use 2RS for both of them. Less logistics / production storage problems using the same item and I would have expected the buyer to be able to negotiate the same price for the single item (maybe even lower depending on quantity bought at a time.

It's back together again now but I think the one on the base was larger. I'm pretty sure it was.

...I'm assuming that the lower one has to have the whole shaft dragged though it (which I can't think will be easy as its covered in junk / corrosion etc) and then pressed out of the casting.

I have not noticed any joint in the shaft, so I think it goes right down to the impeller in the soup at the bottom.

But would it create any issues if a sealed one was used?

In this application, it wouldn't be an issue.

Given that most of these pumps will be produced in thousands, and at the lowest price possible, even a few pence saving per bearing will soon add up.

Bottom one has the possibility of coolant trying to get in, top one doesn't, I'd say that's why it's a rubber seal on the bottom.

If and when you look to replace the lower one, don't be suprised if the impeller (which would have to come off to allow shaft to pass through) is a lh thread if screwed on.

To avoid the surprise, look at the pump rotation direction and assess from that what hand the thread would be.

Top bearing has arrived and has been fitted.

Initial few turns when reassembled were stiff, but is now running fine - just a gentle hum, as you would expect.

Top of the motor (where the bearing is) is pretty warm though, so im not sure all is entirely correct - but maybe it always used to be?

There is certainly no noticeable resistance, beyond those first couple of revolutions. Maybe something isnt quite right and a couple of thermal cycles will adjust - wishfull thinking probably, but, other than the warmth, its all working fine now.

heat may be from the coils, and not the bearing at all, of course - i just dont know / cant remember!

This is after, maybe, 1hr of testing?

For reference, the non-motor parts of the unit are at about 18c.

I dont know if the temperature is still rising, as i only just thought to measure it.

Was it dead heading the pump or free flowing?

If it is pumping, some of the heat would be transferred into the liquid.

You are showing about 35 degrees above ambient. I do not think that is too much to be worried about.

Is there any way to measure the power it is drawing or amps it is pulling?

I wonder if a relatively small motor like yours would run slightly hotter than say a 3hp one, which is physically bigger and so has more mass of iron to dissipate the heat.

It was just pumping around a loop, no head.

The fluid does not go that close to the motor itself. Close enough to cool the base of the casting under that bottom bearing, I guess.

I left it running a fair while and it got to 58 but didn't carry on. I think I did at least 2 or 3 hrs on it.

I could isolate a wire and put a current clamp on it but I suspect I'll probably call it "fixed" and run it until it breaks! The bearing went on easy enough so my only thought is that the top casting of the motor possibly rotated on disassembly and wasn't entirely symmetrical.

I guess, if I could be bothered, I could knock it round 90 degrees and retest, but I suspect I'm too lazy to do that!
