The Facebook friends cloned account is another one that I pursue as you have seen here before. I get the real account ID to report.

This happened to me I've started chatting with the guy who was impersonating my friend asking things obviously in English because everyone knows that you talk English to an old Italian friend who went to school with you and you are both Italians.
Then I've contacted the real friend and told him about this MF

When they call me with the Amazon or Visa scam I generally keep them on as long as I can. Trouble is, it can be difficult not to laugh after a while. They rely on myths about call cost to "press One" and let rip, which is why scammers use these automated systems. If someone hasn't just dumped the call, they are probably a victim in the making.

Have you ever seen Scam Interceptors on BBC1 ? The criminals follow a very well rehearsed script and they are very clever the way that they manipulate vulnerable people. It begs the question that being so clever, why don't they put it into something honest?

There are people that are earning a very good income, but they will still con,steal and take shortcuts at every opportunity. Maybe it is greed, or the way they have been brought up.

bt can and does block video sites for fun the tech is also there to block the numbers as well

so if its for corporate profit they will block it but if its due to scams they wont dont you think that is two faced

I’ve asked EE what they can do to block all 0843 or 0845 numbers, to stop the scam calls, and they say there’s nothing.
They just suggested I change my phone number……

Or set my phone to block all calls with no called ID, but I can’t do that now as I get fairly regular calls from medical people, and they hide their number to stop them getting a million calls a day.

I posted at the same time you did. As I said, I just don't get scam calls anymore.
I too have hospital calls so can't block the 0845 etc numbers.

I wonder if it is the actual phone? Is your phone new? Mine is just over a year old and since switching to it on EE the scam calls stopped.

I’ve had this phone about 5 years now, been with EE for 8 years.

Less than £5 a month.
You get the number then all the calls to that number get diverted to whatever number you choose..

You don't own the 0330 (or whatever) number and it's not registered to you as a land line or anything, so divert it to a payg mobile and you are good to go..
There are also various people advertising these numbers (at a higher price) but they accept bitcoin and don't ask any questions..

You dont even need to answer the voice mail or have a UK payg phone to set one up. Its possible to buy a local geographic number service in the UK and they are charged at expensive call rates, and you get a % of the phone call revenue they generate.
So you scam people into calling, ignore the mailbox contents and just make money from the telephone minutes revenue share.
I used to operate a local geo number in the UK forwarding via mails from the mailbox to a mail server here in France so my UK clients could ring me and leave a message without getting international calls unblocked, and the company offering it had almost no kyc on the account, and I could have enabled the high call rate facilities at any point.

Nearly right. You are thinking of 0844 (some 0845) and 0870. Those were used for revenue but the 0330 was introduced to deal with that problem The cost of calling it is capped at "local rate" and is also included in most call packages. 0844, 0845 and 0870 often weren't. The clue is "08" apart from free numbers.

Any number starting with 0330 is declared a special landline phone number, which many organizations and businesses use.


The 0330 numbers are non-geographic numbers of the UK which means that they have a national presence and are not restricted to a physical location.


Ofcom introduced 0330 numbers in 2007 since then they have seen a rise in their use especially in recent years.


The 0330 numbers are growing favorites among the numbers that organizations and companies prefer for businesses. They serve as a cheap alternative to 08 numbers.


The reason for the high inclination of organizations towards 0330 numbers is two-fold.


One being non-geographic in nature that allows the organizations to use one number for various locations. Even on the relocation of their offices, the same number can be used as primary contact mean.


The second reason for organizations and businesses liking the 0330 numbers the most is the affordable call charges.


These numbers are charged at the same rate as the other local numbers with prefixes 01 and 02. This makes it easy for customers to approach the organizations.


The 0330 numbers have two categories. The 0330 numbers that the government and the Public sector, and the registered charities use specifically. And those 0330 numbers that independent companies prefer to use.

not quite, looking back, the number I had was a regional number coded to ipswich area code, because at the time that's where my customers were. So they called a "local number" and potentially would have paid a premium rate call. Their management were made aware of this and ordered their staff to stop ringing it, so it fell by the wayside and I ceased it years ago now.
Things might have changed, but it was to illustrate that even normal looking numbers can be not what they seem with call routing services. I may have signed up for UK only services using them at times too because they pass the region checks.

Yes, the 0844 and some of the 0845 could come as a surprise. 0330 are true "local rate" and a premium rate cannot be applied to them.

I like to play with scammers, it keeps them occupied and so hopefully away from someone more vulnerable.

Yep. I like the ones who say they are Microsoft engineers and my internet is compromised. I usually reply in a reduced level voice that it's not my house and I am just a burglar looking for items of value.

I am amazed how long it takes some of them to realise they are being had....lol

Honest business takes a lot of effort for the same return sadly.
