Looking to sell some old jaguar engines what's the best best way to ship them, bolted to pallets?

Grandfather passed away and has left behind a large collection of old engines/gearboxes as he was a classic jaguar enthusiast (to the point he was the recommended guy by owners and garages for repairs as even the official jaguar places didn't have half the tools/knowledge he did!) so now we have to unfortunately sort them all out and somehow get them postable if they sell.

No clue what would be the best way to go about it and what would be a reasonable rate to not get ripped off

Engines ship fine on pallets.
Drain all the oil/fluids, remove filters etc.
Screw down some blocks of wood as supports so the engine drops into them and cannot rock around. Then strap it.
Pallet strapping/banding if you can find the tools cheap second-hand. Or cheap ratchet straps. Or rope if you can learn how to do the special knots!.

Identifying what you have and not underselling it is going to be the biggest issue, some of it is worth fortunes, some less so. I would be looking to get someone in that can tell the difference between the two.

Most of the stuff was ID'd and sorted before he passed and his closest friend helped him with the work so he knows enough as well so should be fine on that.

Believe we've tried the forums but not listed most yet as not completely sorted photos but DMG/MER might be a good idea.

I have shipped several used Mercedes engines before including this 250D engine all the way to Australia.





Shipping to Australia is kind of the worst case scenario. So I steam cleaned the engine block to ensure absolutely no soil or oil remained. Drained all fluids. Heat treated strong pallet. Wooden blocks screwed down to pallet and bolted to engine mounts. Straps to add more hold down strength. Pallet wrap to prevent water ingress during shipping. Several copies of customs dockets and a signed document stating all fluids have been removed included.

I also made sure the lorry they sent would have a pallet truck for collection and all went fine.

Will get a list, one I know is 3.8L from a mk10 jag and all stored 30+ years. Engines gearboxes overdrives etc enough to build your own mad max jag

Only have this for now but will have more soon and gives idea of overall condition as down in Cornwall so sea air over 30yrs but have been under cover/in garage. they appear to have no frost damage or any damage to block/head.

Cylinder head No 7B 52366-8

No details yet on this one

I had a 1964 Etype, like all these things they were the same but different, most early Etypes had hi comp pistons, a full length sump and the inlet man took the SU carbs down a bit for more bonnet clearance.

If they sell for good money and you send them out on pallets you would do well to protect them, I have never had a problem shipping my own stuff to me on open pallets but yours are going to be someone elses property. An EPAL and enough 20cm folding pallet collars to cover the engine topped with nailed on hardboard. Good used EPAL and 5 collars is about £60 +VAT, put it on the buyers bill, he wants it enough and if any buyers are outside of Europe the freight cost will dwarf the cost of a pallet box anyway.
