Does bulldozing the area count as improving if so I could think of a few.One of the requirements of hosting the Olympics, is that it should lead to an improvement in the area that it is hosted.

Don't forget that most governments are made up of the ruling classes ,by definition, and therefore have very little knowledge of the real world and are accustomed to having someone else foot the bill. The dictatorships don't give a toss if it all goes wrong they just shoot a few protestors and the democracies will just get voted out and walk away with their redundancy and pension. Most governments couldn't organise one, unless someone else is paying for it...........
Too London centric for me.
Was it paid for by London or British taxpayers as a whole? How can the London Olympics be too London centric?
The Olympics is hosted by a city, if it wasn't centred on that city then it would be a bit of a failure!
Im thinking the same, perhaps it's an age thingWatching the opening ceremony, don't know what to make of it, very odd.
In Calais, you see dog footprints in human turds...I went to Calais once, I was struck at what a dump it was, the pavements in the town were a sea of dog turds to the extent you were playing hopscotch constantly to avoid them. It was like Tilbury but with more dog crap.
There was an earthquake near Marseille a few years ago, it caused 12 million Euro's of improvements...Does bulldozing the area count as improving if so I could think of a few.
It seems to be some kind of French thing...I did watch it all as even though im not sporty its quite an important event, the fat guy all painted blue with his nads hanging out and a few flowers was a bit weird and the guy in the orange suit all on his tod "dancing" for ages, what was that about? shame about the rain as well
Every single person I’ve heard mention the opening ceremony has absolutely nothing good to say about it. I watched a short clip somewhere, of some wierd ‘thing’ dressed up in some outlandish garb, and if the rest of it was anything like then I’d say it’s an open insult to the whole concept of the Olympic games.Following on from the thread title ... the Siene was recently rated as too polluted to swim in safely

Could sewage pollution put a stop to Olympic events in the Seine?
Only one out of 14 water samples show the river to be safe for swimming, according to analysis by Surfrider Foundation.www.euronews.com
In other news, Paris had major power cuts today ..
Lots of photos from the opening ceremony but they are not suitable for a family forum so I'll not share them. Suggest you don't look for them yourself
I've seen no mention about the actual events yet but I guess there will be competitions at some point since this is the Olympics. I live in hope !

Yeah, just imagine how exciting it would be if they’d stuck to the original format, eh?Although I will not be watching any of the Olympics I was curious to see that break dancing is now a sport. As far as I am concerned the original Olympics were basically running, jumping and throwing (practiced by naked men, women weren’t even allowed to spectate) but now synchronised diving and swimming, skateboarding, golf and soon cricket are now part of it.
