I accompanied wifey into London yesterday - she had a medical appointment.

After, we went to Oxford Street (involuntarily on my part) and the place was heaving. A wet Tuesday and the place was crowded with people and carrier bags.
There's obviously still plenty of spare in some parts of 'the economy'.

I met a gent in his 80's yesterday lunchtime who lives just outside Oxford and said exactly the same thing, he seemed surprised too. I found this quite amusing as the conversation continued, whilst in London he had visited Boisdale Of Belgravia for dinner with a Cuban cigar and we were stood discussing this in a pub where lunch for two was going to exceed £250!

It was drummed into me from an early age that if I wanted anything I had to work for it an if I couldn't afford it then save up!

This has stuck with me and the only debt I have is my mortgage, these callers from debt management companies can't seem to do anything with mortgage debt!!!

Anyway, my dads look on things has clearly been passed to me and I'll be passing it onto my kids as I'm quite proud of the fact that I'm only 29, married with two kids, a dog and although relatively new but growing business.

Same here. Also that if you didn't have the money in your pocket for it, you can't get it. I still insist on using cash too. Wouldn't touch a card with a bargepole, and I only use cheques either for withdrawing money from the bank, (the cashiers gave up trying to talk me into using the card ages ago ), else for posting payment.

My father was irate when the bank sent him his new cheque guarantee card that was also a debit card.
Sent it back to them, along with a nasty letter LOL
