Remaking engine stand parts

I've got a cheap engine stand here that's missing a couple of the parts that actually touch the engine - the bits the bolt goes though into the block.


Is my best plan just to remake these with some box section and tube (running though the box so the box does not crush) or is there a better plan for a single engine (as in I only need to mount one engine - it does not need to be adaptable)

I'm sure I watched a youtube ones of someone cutting a plate to match the rear stud pattern and just using that, but, due to my lack of experience in the matter, I can't really see how this is "better" and I can't find the video now.

I need to do something before my friend wants his stand back...

it really depends on the weight of the engine....
the heavier the eng the more solid support required PLUS some times u can only get to use 3 mounts....
so
for a small 4 cyl engine u can get away with just double nutted studding....12mm of bigger......
engines a bit bigger will require some tube over the studding to stiffen things up...

It's fine. He gave me the warning that he would want it back at some point. I told him that, when he did, I'd drop the engine on the floor and give it back. I understand the terms hence wanting to sort out my own for when the time comes.

For clarity, his is complete, mine is identical but missing two of the bracket things.

I have supported complete 200tdi on an engine stand either with four bolts thro slotted arms picking up on bell housing studs
or to bolts into the tapped holes in the side of the block, so you'll have no bother.
Just copy some of your mate's "bracket things" or make up a plate that adapts the side of the block threaded hole to the plate on the stand.

I made my engine stand.
An iron big block sitting on it for a long time used to get a bit of wood jammed between pan rail and stand, to stop the sag, the sag was visually annoying.
I was round at my nephews one day and a Vtec was on his engine stand, his 4 wheel engine stand. Why the hell did I make mine 3 wheel T shaped base- I did actually put 4 wheels but it was basically three wheeled. When rotating a motor on the stand I had the stand tip and had to catch it, the 4 wheel bit[H base instead of T] was so obviously better.

I could sketch the bit's you on about, it harder to describe them. I made them from thick wall tube, ID >3/8" bell housing studs. I welded the tube to some bit's of 1" or so square stock, which was drilled and tapped to bolt to the curvy gas axed bit of plate that went into the stand.

Made one that the tube fitted in a socket under the bench, so when not in use did not take up room.
Have supported strait 8 and V8 on one eng mounting pad and another nearby hole.
Length of scaf pole as the arm weld what you want on the end

Didn't trust my chinesium engine stands with half a tonne of Perkins so made my own. Admittedly doesn't rotate but made it slightly taller so wasn't bending down and it was comfortable to work on my knees when I needed to.

I do have a cement mixer gearbox I was going to adapt onto this.
