Dashcam nolonger comes on without pressing button each time I get in car, since a hard wire connection.

I have always plugged the dash cam in to the cig lighter socket which means untidy cable and was a pita.

Today I took car to a place to have the cam hard wired.
I requested the cam to work from the first click (radio position) which it does now. The niggle is that when I go out again in the car, I have to press the cam button on each time. I did not have to do this when it was plugged in to the cig lighter. What could the problem be?

Could it be that when you exit the car and lock it the dash cam is still "on" and therefore adventually goes in to sleep mode and so when you return and open up you have to use the "on" button to wake it up ?

Power outlet will be switched 12v, so should be exactly same as a hardwired install, if the supply is ignition switched.

Edit: can you check the power turns off with the ignition, as @mike 109444 implies?

I can explain what I have done thus far.

I turned the ignition to 1st position and the cam does not come on. So I press the button of the cam, and the cam comes on and I can see what the cam is seeing on my drive. I switch the ignition off and the cam goes off as expected. I then turn the ignition on again to ist position, but the cam does not come on until I press the cam's button.

Is there somewhere in Settings the option to power up the camera when power is supplied to it? Mine (OK a 6 year old Viofo) does exactly that. I don't have to touch any button to switch it on.

With typical cig lighter sockets, they've switched power with ignition. These days, aux power sockets are permanent live.

As I read it, @mart was doing the same thing that I do - start the car, then plug the camera into the socket. Unplug at the end of the journey.

Mine is hard wired to an ignition controlled feed. Comes on automatically. Surely must be setup.

I have no instruction book and do not know what half the buttons do, must be one online ?

Several systems in the car are permanent live e.g the alarm, central locking sensor, I believe the cig lighter aswell for passengers seated in the car while the driver is away. My dash-cam is on the ignition on and gives an audible warning when booting up and shutting down. I'm not sure if it's a good idea to put it on the radio circuit since since I can switch that off and remains off when I return and turn the ignition on in my car that maybe what's happening, have you tried leaving the radio on when turning the ignition off and removing the key.

Unlikely. Both my dash cams were 10+ year designs and had 2 wires ( earth and 12V feed), they save the settings automatically using a small internal watch type battery ( confirmed on one of mine when the internal battery died and it lost the settings every time I turned the engine off). I suspect the newer ones save the settings without needing a battery or a permanent live feed.

2 suggestions to check:
camera settings (mine has a "stay awake for a few minutes after the engine is turned off" - something like that might stop it working the way you expect), try turning it off and leaving it 15 minutes - see if it restarts ok then.
Check if the power is removed when the key is turned off.

I've read this next post from Nomad, my dash-cam indeed has a stay awake feature just for a few moments so to shutdown just like a computer, switching at the main always fouls it up. it has to be on a permanent live.

Previously I always left the cable in the cig lighter, which is live when the key is turned to the 1st position.

The wire of the dash cam has been connected to the relevant position in the fuse box, and becomes live when the ignition is on.

I am thinking now that the cam will need some initial charging for say about minutes drive for it to boot up having not been used for about a month. I shall see what happens this morning when I go out in the car.

See if your cig lighter is on or not before putting the key in, there other accessories that work off the cig lighter when the ignition is off.
