Motorbike footpeg rubber

What’s the best thing to use to stick these on and make them stay there, ideally forever?

I’ve tried the following:

- nothing
- Tiger seal

I give up.

The last bike I took in for MoT failed because the new hand grips I'd fitted were slightly loose. He then stuck them on with ordinary Superglue, and passed it. Works every time, apparently.

CT1. The rubber will likely wear away first. Let it set if you can for 24 hrs at least.

Wipe off any excess with cheap baby wipes.

Permenent rubber glue. Contains Isocyanate. Also sold as wetsuit or tent repair glue.
I have only used the Wilko version but reasonably sure its the same stuff. I use this for climbing shoe resoleing, it is good stuff.

To be honest, contact adhesive should also work reasonably well for that.

Superglue tends to let go if it gets wet for any length of time, it will work atleast temporarily

The grip is too loose for that, and the barbs in the steel are next to useless. I could wrap the peg in something but the rubber is soft-ish and it feels like it would take a lot. A cable tie at the end might do.

What about wrapping the metal grip in rubber self amalgamating tape first?

The best adhesive I've used and swear by, not at, is " Fletch-Tite ", primarily used for feather and vanes on arrow's. It provides a super bond to metal. I have aluminium arrows with vanes on them that are still bonded which are decades old, and the glue has not hardened like others do. The only thing is its expensive nowadays for a small tube of it.

Evostick would have been my first choice.
Coat the peg and the inside of the rubber first. Leave to go off. Coat the peg again, slide the rubber on.

The new layer of glue allows it to slide on.

I’d use CT1, everything I’ve used it on has stuck and is still stuck

I'd 2nd bricol with contact adhesive with second coat to slip the rubber on

Normally with that style you have to knock them on they're that tight.

If it's a loose fit you may be fighting a losing battle.

Some are screwed on, maybe belt and braces solution?.

Thanks for the input. I think I’ll try the self amalgamating tape first since it’s free (I’ve already got some). Maybe a cable tie at the end done up tight in one of the grooves where it can’t back over the bulge of the tape. If that fails I’ll try CT1, possibly backed up with screws.

What about a succession of non lubricated prophylactics one on top of the other?

How about weatherproof silicone sealant? Would that work?

Adhesives tend to either peel or crack, but the presence of even a fairly minor quantity of screws or rivets stops that happening.

I first came across it 40 yrs ago with radio control race car tyres. It works that well, that with those, you put a layer of insulating tape on the wheel first and glued the tyre to that. When you wore the tyre out, cut down to the wheel, and peel the tyre off, the tape bond being the weak link. If you glued direct to the wheel, it was a sanding job.

Had to turn it inside out and roll it over the peg, worked a treat.

Not going anywhere now.
