Crushed glass blasting

Hello.I Have a sand blasting gabinet in my shed with dust extractor.I use a mix of crushed glass beads with a aluminium girt 70 crushed glass and 30 aluminum girt.Can anyone tell me if the blasting at home it is illegal in the uk if I do this on my private property?My next dior neigbour start company about the noise if I do something once in a week for couple hours.He saitld to me it is illegal and he gona inform council about it.Thanks for the coments

no you're fine crack on and get it done. if you were using sand that's illegal (due to silicosis), but crushed glass and I guess you mean aluminium oxide are fine. As with noise, some neighbourhood are quiet than others, I live on a busy road, so the noise from an angle grinder blends into the background. on a very quiet neighbourhood it might be a different story though. also if they do tell the council, they may suggest that you are running a business from your property

How about the material that your removing ?
lead based paint ?
anything else you putting into the air ?

I have got a big fan extractor brought from the sandblasting.co.uk paid around 300£.it is noisy but do the job and You can see everything in the blaster gabinet

When I finish my project on my car i like to do a set of aluminum cast table and 6 chairs and is some white paint on it.this can be a problem?

You should be fine, running a business from you home, if that was the case is not illegal so long as your set up properly to do so.

Your neighbour doesn't like the noise, I get that, but as long as you're using the the right material then I'm not sure what they can do, if anything.

If you read the council advice on noise, it depends on frequency, volume, duration and time. A few hours blasting a week is unlikely to be an issue.

I had a neighbour today threaten to call the council because the long grass on the side of my alley scratches his car. I told him it would be great if the council could come down and advise us the rules and I welcome it. It's what we pay them for.

If you do a 3 hours a week in saturday thats not a runig a business THOUGH. It is only a compresor runing non stop.Abac 270l and fan extractor and they are noisy for the old neigbour it is 79years old and he said him conservatory is shaking and he will be report me to council if I use a industrial mashine at home.20kg blast pot

Problem I see is the air compressor...it would be classed as industrial equipment maybe by the council?

My rule is I don't make noise on sunny days ...especially weekends. That's when most folk will notice.

When it's raining all the windows are closed so nobody notices...that constrains me to noisy work about 45 weeks a year in the UK!

It's better to just speak with them and work something out I would say...if they get 2 or 3 neighbours together it'll be a problem for sure!

Yes it is going to the dust extractor.I just remove a rust and for paiting I give to powder coating company nere me

Do it on a weekend or after 4pm on a weekday. All the council staff will have gone home already...

Before I got my compressor I was looking at a sound curtain to dampen the noise...in the end wasn't needed. The ones I saw online were made of a dense rubber sheet that basically absorbs the sound.

Might try something like that maybe...if you can get the noise down then any complaints wont go anywhere.
