Used one in my previous job working a cnc press,gave good accurate readings and was robust althougth the bracket that holds the magnifying glass to the protractor broke after a while,think it got dropped one to many times

Not really my thing ,have you already ruled out digital?...for info only digital protactor.........i used to use a very-near,then a dial now always a digital caliper,does the same apply to protractors ,easier on the eyes?

Was wondering if it might be a bit clumsy.
Some kind of protractor/angle finder thingy has to be on the cards. I like the idea of digital, is it coz I is lazy?

Yes but look after it and it'll last you a lifetime, I have an M&W combination set, protractor ,square and centre finder bought 37 years ago and still in use every day, how much of this electronic stuff will last than long, no batteries to go flat either.

I have some very expensive M&W squares - 18" jobs. They came from a factory that did some high spec stuff - they were all regularly calibrated and had specific cases. I'm afraid to say they are not in as good condition now.
I've got a decent Bosch electronic angle finder which is great for site measures, but a bit clumsy for fab work.
I think i will have a punt on the one i linked. Vernier scale not that important - its only going to be used for sticking end plates on beams, handrails etc.

Hmm. Have that problem with squares on big box section. Didnt Tigpaul put a link up sometime ago with a square with a special stock to sit on rounded edges? Or was it you?

Base squares they are caller iirc, try toolshack
its a nice solid weighty piece of kit that I use mainly when reverse engineering components etc.Flathead_Dave
