Hope he gets locked up for it and taught a proper lesson. More likely he will be rewarded. At the least he should be done for speeding as he appears to be using excessive speed without blue lights and the rules state they can only use speed with lights.

I'd suggest they could have got a vet with a tranquiliser, would have been a better option - given they are said to have been following it for a reasonable amount of time.

Theres nothing graphic in the video and the calf does get up and run off in the end, so I do not see any reason to remove it. If the mod's feel this is not the place then perhaps remove the video but keep the thread.

I'd be interested how others with experience of these large beasts would have approached the situation, one for @hotponyshoes ?

Wouldn't have even needed that. That animal could have been ushered into a garden by three calm people and the gate shut until someone with a trailer could have got there to collect it.

Whilst it's not right I don't think there should be any punishment. Incredibly high chance that no officer on site has ever had any dealings with livestock nor knows how to handle them, there tendencies, temperament or anything else. They have made a decision that to the best of their knowledge was the best way to do their job a protect the public.
If we throw the book at them then the police force as a whole will show restraint in dealing with any future incidents of any type for fear of being reprimanded. This could have a far greater impact on society than an ill conceived attempt to stop a cow. A toolbox talk or whatever the police call them should be given in the correct procedure.
But remember most people on seeing a cow running around loose will draw on the knowledge they have which is far more likely to be garnished from tv drama and an image of cows mutilating people.

Yeh when I saw that I was quite shocked, if it was an escaped Lion I might have seen their point, they’re obviously clueless to the risk involved to the general public, thankfully the animal was not badly injured and the press surrounding it will hopefully cause the need to educate police as to how to handle this type of situation in the future.

Maybe these guys slipped through the net then, the 3 horses that broke loose and ran through the centre of London were a much higher risk to the public than this poor wee cow and they quite rightly didn’t try to run them down.

I think they had been chasing it for hours in cars, why didn't they call for proper help? Very poor and I can't believe you approve the way it was handled

Turning off sirens and flashing lights would be a good way to avoid panicking the animal more than it already is

My Ex is very experienced with livestock and has often seen supposedly intelligent people try to control lose animals using techniques that work on people
Difficult to give examples without upsetting anyone or bending forum rules so I'll end there.

Having said that an out of control cow isnt a good sight if your close by or cornered. I move cattle now and again with our neighbour or my son in law.

It would be interesting to hear the drivers logic and what they were trying to achieve. But the fact it got up and ran off they didn't achieve much, and opened the animal abuse flood gates.

It was only young. I'd say a bit less than a year old from it's size. Still heavy enough to hurt someone but harmless enough if handled calmly.

I disagree, the police have no restraint and are not held accountable for their mistakes.

I was behind a police car last week, he was speeding unnessasarily everywhere (I was doing the speed limit myself where safe to do so). He didnt get to destination any quicker as there was a half hour road work traffic jam on the route.

Haha, no they were just curious and coming closer for a look, if he’d stopped they’d have stopped a few feet away, they obviously didn’t feel threatened, maybe your dad did.
