just waiting on bearing puller/install tool to arrive.Have you got sorted yet?![]()
You need the tool to press the bearing back in correctlhI have had really rusted Mercedes wheel bearings similar to that which destroyed pullers.
So I use my 20 tonne press now. Split the ball joints with a tool that does not damage the boots then prop the hub securely into the press. Heat up with a map torch and they will go with a bang.
In most cases the original bearing is used to press the replacement one home which spreads the load. (This application may be different)You need the tool to press the bearing back in correctlh
That looks very similar to my transporter wheel bearings. The two I’ve done have been relatively easy with the correct tool. But I’d recommend using a big ratchet (3/4”) rather than an impact gun when removing or installing the bearing and lubricate the thread generously
That’s not really possible as the hub and the bearing are supplied as one assembly and have to be pressed in together. When assembled there is very little room between the inner wheel hub face and the housing. The bearing is held in place with a snap ring which is part of the bearingIn most cases the original bearing is used to press the replacement one home
It's done and ABS problem appears to have been resolved.
Found numerous other issues while working on car.
1.) Wishbone rear bushes collapsing both sides.
2.) Steering rod end - allen hex now completely rusted/rounded out. Managed to do it up by using an easy out. Will be an angle grinder job to get it off.
3.) Exhaust sleeve/join between cat and back box rusted through clamps and loose.
4.) Exhaust rubber hangers excessive play
5.) Exhaust back box rotten, will have to fabricate new, no way on gods earth am i paying stealer prices for a new one nor £600 for a milltek.
This is the secret to dsg reliability. My dad and brother have both had a number of dsg equipped Skodas with no issues at all, getting them serviced on time or sooner than the recommended intervals .I had not trouble with my DSG at all - but I have changed the fluid and gearbox filter every 30k - plus I done the electronic calibrations every oil change to adjust the clutches up.
@premmington can i book
in with you maybe next month for oil changes on dsg gearbox
