Now I have a cabinet I pulled all my old files into it, most inherited and these ones were in an old toolbox and not seen the light of day for some time:

Not many makes I recognise:

Also got my small barstock in a drawer, so easier to find: split by non-ferrous, steels and stainless:

My assorted Whitworth spanners are now handier too:

absolutely, though the cranked adjustable was made in Canada, so may not be sure if its metric or Imperial...

Recognise the Flockton & Tomkin, also Tyzack, who also made scythes.

When I started in the Agri company, they had some Flockton & Tomkin files in individual waxy boxes a wrapped in waxed paper. Real old fashioned. They had been in stock for years, but they were relatively expensive.

Like most things, probably way better than anything you can buy now.

Aye I have a a few old Bedford spanners, never knew they did files.

Any files that are too blunt to be useful can always be turned into bearing scrapers, I did these when I was an apprentice under the guidance of a bloke who had previously worked as a fitter (IIRC) for Scammell. They had previously been a half round and three square file.

dad had made a similar triangular one , he was a tool maker , but anoyingly I cant find it .

looking at those files most look in better nick than my "good" files , certainly more handles as well

Tome Feteiria files are still available from Arc Eurotrade They are excellent quality, still made "the old way".

But are they any good - the old American youtuber Tubalcaine /MrPete came out with one of his gems once "if any of your files are blunt, bin em, they will cause you so much frustration if you don't"

Most look really good and as good or better than my modern Bahco set. A few need a wire brush.

A bath in battery acid brings back the cutting edges.

I also have mine in cardboard sleeves to stop them knocking against each other.




No expense spared with the cardboard!
