BBMF Spitfire crash

One of the BBMF Spitfires crashed today, Pilot killed. Do not know any other details yet.

Some reports of a rough sounding engine. Unlikely we will see a full crash report as it’s a military investigation. However having seen some pictures of the wreckage it appears to me like a forced landing incident rather than loss of control, ie partial or full engine failure leading to getting it on the ground where you can.

Thoughts go out to the pilots family and friends, and the Bbmf crews at coningsby

Only speculation. From what I’ve heard so far I’d say an engine failure on or very shortly after takeoff into a forced landing and fire

Worst time possible for engine failure..taken off and no height for recovery or tactics R.I.P Sqn leader mark long.
