In a Walmart in USA today and the portion sizes of what you can buy VS home is quite funny. Some examples:

Sacks of breakfast cerial:



48 pack of pop tarts (16x is the smallest box)



Over a KG of mints:



The red sauce is a twin pack and much cheaper than home too!



Just interesting to see when you are not used to that at all!

After two weeks feeling cheated by US "Pints", I thoroughly enjoyed a 32oz Modelo this afternoon.



My "breakfast" was quite a generous portion too.

When we were in Canada many years ago, muffins in a 24 pack were the thing, they were lovely.
24 pack as below that quantity they had to charge state tax on it as well!
Pitchers of beer go down nice too!

In RSA years ago the supermarkets routinely stocked 25 kg (non of your namby-pamby Manual Lifting 20kg please) sacks of maize meal and sugar.

Maize meal is no more surprising than 20kg sacks of rice in the local Indian supermarket. But 25kg of Sugar? Retail? Really?

Visit an Afrikaner and you will be force-fed koeksisters. A 'doughnut' made of at least 50% sugar. Glaswegian deep-fried Mars bars have nothing on Afrikaner sugar consumption.

Bye the bye - were is your 'gallon' of milk or orange juice?

When the wife and I were touring the west coast US from Sonoma down to LA, apart from the occasional decent meal, all the rest confused quality and quantity. Huge mounds of poorly cooked cheap carp.

Some of the kids having a pile of pancakes and syrup for breakfast had to waddle they were so fat.

We ordered a Mexican up in the hills near Sonoma, a tray piled with food arrived, we both commented that we would struggle to finish it then the second tray arrived....

I was watching a program on how they factory farm chickens...it was shocking to hear the farmer basically say he quit because he just couldn't face it anymore!

My parents used to by 1cwt bags of cereal, porridge, flour etc from a local cash and carry in Bournemouth when we were kids in the early 70s - simply cheaper in the long run.

Although I've been travelling to and working in the US since 1999 - whereas there used to be quite a lot of large people . . . now it's the smaller people who stand out as unusual. But look around in the UK . . . not so different here these days.

This^^^ quite handy when I supermarket shop as it puts me off the food watching all the nylon/spandex/lycra clad folks that are bursting at the seams!

Walmart is out of the gun trade in most if not all stores, just ammo now.

I suspect less trips, but some have big families.
Try over at Sam's club or Costco, they specialize in bulk.
