Cost of Painting Gable ends

£300 a week hire of a suitable tower scaffold, looks like enough room there to set up a double width tower and then the job can be carried out safely. I'd have doubts that guy working from a ladder could prepare the timber to a satisfactory standard before repainting.

my gable ends needed sanding and painted there high up and quite large 140 years old did the gable ends using my portable scaffold tower and the boards behind the gutters of ladders .would have took too long up and down with ladders and dangerous at the top quarter peak

Let's face it the only reason why the OP doesn't want to consider scaffolding is to reduce costs. That is not a valid reason when safety is concerned.

Ladder isn't really suitable for that, quite a big overhang.... if it takes more than 30 mins to do it, ladder isn't suitable is what most say these days.

No idea on cost of scaffold we had our roof done a few years back, 3 sides of the house with scaffold for 3 weeks was £180..

Back to ladders, I would probably do it myself from ladders.

The daughter has a new build, the roofers were round doing some remedial work, one on the roof, one holding the ladder one at the top of the ladder.

Ohh what's that gone past the window and what was the thud, ladder went one way, no idea how, guy at top went straight down on the pavement, side of head stoved in, collarbone snapped, broken ribs and not a pretty sight by all accounts.

No mention of them being sued for owning the house, and they now need gutter clips replaced as he brought them down when he fell.

mines a 5x5 foot steel galvanized one goes up to 40 foot .its heavy gauge steel not the thin krap one had it 50 years and its in mint condition not a mark or dent on any of the sections

might not be the op just the painter implying that he can do it off the ladder but to do the job right its not on the ladder bad enough sanding down inside cornices on a plank that took days to get back to white from black after the fire damage

had both the steel 5x5 scaffold tower but prefer the scaffold poles and planks renew the planks when needed

ive had my time on ladders and ropes dont ask i was the lightest and was always up a tree with no fear, shimed up between an alley way and 2 floors high gutter height back against one wall and feet against the other wall so safe and no one could get me

If you have ground access I would suggest using a cherry picker. Probably 4 days work there max.

Scaffolding would be a pita, you'll have to move it to do the other gable.

Is a ladder the most appropriate method? Best checking the guy doing it has the appropriate insurances & risk assessments etc in place before commencing. Is he a competent contractor?
Otherwise the cheap guy taking cash and working off a ladder could be trying to sue you if something goes wrong.

Or his family will.

had my money back on it 3 times over used it with a scaffie pole and a hoist to build m,y steel framed garage roof ,hired it out about 2 dozen times and used umpteen times myself ive looked after it . no cement snots on it and no ones hit it taking it apart
