Sticking ally to ally

Need to stick some ally together. Nice wide contact area - 20mm or so. Whats the best adhesive (Sika?) to use to make sure they stick together permanently?

I've always thought Araldite was fairly permanent.....but not cheap!!

I tried last yr to bond to pieces of ally 75mmx600mm, with sika, ruffed up the surfaces with a 80grit disc, and applied the sika in lines, 24hrs later I could pull it apart.

Used some stuff from Wurth in the end

We used to use 3M scotch weld for building CIT cabinets... cant remeber the number though.

ive got a tube of tec 7 made by novatec suposed to be the beez kneeze at glueing everything so the rep says il try it on sum ally at the wekend and post the results THEN BOLLOCK HIM IF ITS CRAP and eat pie if it isnt

Sikaflex is great Paul. Don't forget the acetone, and double-check there's not a Sika primer for it, as that can really add to the bonding ability.

Also, if you want a water tight bond, only do a single run. You'd think a double run would be better, but what happens is the air gets squeezed out from between the two runs and breaks the seal. I know this, we found it out building a wave machine a few years back. What a hassle that was.

I was thinking along the lines of Sikaflex, but we don't use adhesives that much.
This stuff can't fail or we will have a lot of rework to do, and red faces all round. I will ring the Sikaflex rep tomorrow, tell him what i want to do and get him to put his balls on the line.

Sikaflex primer 204, my informants tell me. - For ally, galv etc.

Sikabond is for gluing metal. You can buy it from B&Q £8.78 a cartridge.

Drains. I used to work for a Coach builder and one of my jobs was to glue alloy tracking into vans, that required primer. Boy did that stuff stick.

ISTR that was made by Sikalfex

Tiger Seal sticks well, definitely degrease the ally first. Seem to be different types of Sika, I stuck an ally floor down with it and it did peel easily. Praps the wrong glop. Tiger Seal did it well.
