It never taken me long to justify a purchase to myself!

Now SWMBO on the other hand!!

When I cared the purchases were always declared in manpounds, manpounds = 10% of £ sterling.

I buy and then think about it, for a short while at least. I don’t actually buy very much now, youngest son has a very good tool box and what he hasn’t got he can get from work. My most recent purchase was a set of Husqvarna crank shaft seal pullers. They make an easy job very very easy.

Because of health issues and diminished strength in right hand / side I use as many "aids" as I can to allow me to continue playing outside. Only last week I bought a Milwaukee 3/8" cordless ratchet and don't need any justification

Many things I buy have to be declared in man euros to my mom .
Cause she says I'm wasting money on tools every month.

Most of the time I get bargains, roughly paying 1/10 of the brand new price , and sometimes I got brand new items like all the dormer stuff I got recently for even less of the 1/10 up mentioned.

This is really a very common issue with women isn't it. They just do not get it at all in most cases. Yet a £300 makeup box etc makes sense(?)

In any case what I mean is the tools are very useful and in many cases essential items to maintain your home etc. Good tools will also always hold their value or in many cases if bought well or broken and repaired you could resell and make money with some fettling.

I never was good at saving £ I'm a spender and that's all there is to it. But by investing in classic cars and a garages full of tools they are my savings and indeed the cars are appreciating faster than any bank interest rate. (10x classic MBs which I fettle at)

I won two TS350 con saws on Ebay at the same time as I thought I'd only win one of them BUT looking at the cost of second hand spares I reckon I'm in pocket if anything breaks on the good one so no justification needed in my mind, the wife's mind is another thing though...

Sometimes I won some other were a completely waste of money.

Small items I buy to get the job done, usually medium to high quality depending on predicted usage, rarely buy cheap I don’t consider it value for money usually. That said I have purchased a cheap metal bender kit and tube bender kit, both turned out to be pretty good for the very cheap price. Anything expensive ie four figures plus always buy a good make new or secondhand that can easily be sold on again. Depreciation will be low on these machines rather than a no name that no one wants and you can’t get spares or service for.

SHMBO, had about 70 pairs (her estimate) of shoes plied under the 8ft clothes rail in the bedroom when we lived in Essex. She owned about 7ft, I had access/rights to less than 1ft of the rail..

I had about 5 pairs of footwear including work boots.......

My Good Lady knows that tools can both earn and save me money, so never asks about what I'm buying and in fact when I can't do something because I don't have the right tool I am encouraged to buy it

My boss bought a new Aprilia RSV1000 and kept it at work, which was fine until his wife called in one day, she saw the bike and stormed up the stairs to his office

My dearly beloved has no problem with my tool purchases (and I find the idea of hiding them a bit curious, if slightly understandable) Because they keep things going and she benifits from that. Bits for the boat might be another conversation....

The battery on my bike was fairly flat, I put the charger on and it appears to be taking a charge.

A charge and see 40p in electric
B Buy a new battery £50.00
C Buy a noco jump starter capable of jumping 8L petrol.

Obviously C was mathematical the best option

Genuinely think that most of my tools work out as free!...for example I spent quite a bit on festool stuff but I used it to fit a kitchen myself!

Missus is totally happy with me buying tools...I'm currently trying to swing myself a new van...that's going to take quite a bit of maths to justify I reckon .

I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter as long as you don't regret it. I can only think of one tool purchase I regret. A metabo mitre saw. It is to big for the space I have and doesn't want to stay square. So it never gets used and just sits there. I wish I had bought a non sliding one would have been far more useful.
Other than that no regrets, even things like a 3/4 socket set that was expensive and used once.
