Burnback Adjustment - IFL MIG 170

Although this is specifically aimed at owners of the IFL MIG 170 I welcome constructive comments from owners of other machines. I was welding over the weekend and came to the conclusion the Burnback Adjustment was not working. No matter whether the potentiometer was set to 0 or 10 or anywhere in between the wire ended up about 6 mm from the end of the contact tip. Before I get the casing off I wondered if any member has experience of the adjustment working, or not, on this machine. Thanks in advance.

As I received no responses I assume these welding machines are pretty rare. Update: I shipped it off to IFL for repair and they couldn't get the burnabck adjustment to work either despite changing both PCBs and the potentiometer, I can only surmise, maybe wrongly, that there was a design fault which never permitted any form of burnback adjustment. Fortunately I am only an enthisiastic amateur, I don't have the expertise or experience to call myself a welder, so it is something I have and will continue to live with.

IFL seem to be a pretty decent uk based company, perhaps give them a chance to fix the problem,

then report back?

Check your wire drum does not free wheel to rest.
Adjust spring tension to give some resistance when rotating. .
This tension ajdusted by nut on drum center being turn in clockwise.
A full roll has quite a lot of inertia to over come as could defeat burn back settings if too loose.
