After a while looking for something local and within budget, this AC/DC TIG welder came up.



It's a Merkle MobiTIG 180, with a foot pedal which is a nice bonus.

Not a brand I'd heard of before, but the few mentions of them I've seen on here seem to be mostly positive.

I haven't done anything with it yet beyond checking it powers up OK with no error codes. Next step is to get an argon bottle and regulator and have a play, hopefully at the weekend. Never done any TIG before, I'll re-read all the guides on here first but I expect I'll have a lot more questions after my first attempt.

A couple of packs of TIG aluminium filler rods , plus the manual for the Winona crankshaft grinder, which is quite an eye - opener.
There's a fair amount missing from the kit that I recently bought, but the manual is very detailed indeed......
Looks as though I'm going to have to make some specialised motorised jig.....

Yes. It should save me quite a bit of time in fabricating new brake lines and making them look nice. I got this particular type of straightener (rather than the kind where you have to feed the tubing into the end of the straightener) because I can straighten pieces that already have fittings on the ends. It also got quite a few good reviews.

Toda I finally got this from Temu .. got the most expensive as they appear to be good quality ( That remains to be seen )

My original ratchet screwdriver & ratchet socket set cost me £12 back in 1986 , Both screw driver & ratchet died within days of each other last month , I had a set of six X point screwdriver tips three flat blades , the socket had 7 mini metric sockets , two of which I bust years ago & replaces with proper Britool 1/4 drive sockets from a

proper engineering tool company about 35 yrs ago .

This set appears to be the bees knees and with luck will see me out in about 30 years time

Those boxes were used to transport mainly Covid but also samples from the regions to Labs for testing during the pandemic. I strongly recommend you clean them inside and out with bleach. You should also remove or cover the UN3373 'Biological substance category B' labelling.

Other than that good find. There were probably 50,000 + of these boxes in use, most were destroyed so these likely went walkies or were left in a van.

I came home tonight with another welder


Pacini DC TIG with HF start and gas solenoid etc. Typical modern inverter unit so light and compact. And a full but also small second Argon rent free bottle and reg.

I tested it out and appears to be a decent little welder. I will be using it on my W124 in my front garage to try cill repairs with it and just get more "seat time" with TIG in general.



I already have a large SIP AC DC tig - so this is a second TIG machine for me. (Welder no 6 overall but who's counting)
