Not wishing to be argumentative but are you sure - oil from the primary chain case?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the feed for the chain lube came from an off take from the engine oil tank return line.

Pretty sure that's what old harleys did.

Not on any Brit bike I’ve worked on, and that’s a lot. The oil tank breather very often was directed at the rear chain. The T feed from the return usually fed the rockers.

I'm not too sure Greeves246 - please refer oil lubrication data for the T120 and T160 plus photo attached from inside the oil tank of my T160.
In both cases (T120 and T160) the oil feed to the final drive chain is via an off take "arrangement" which consists of a taper running inside an an orifice, thus allowing for the adjustment of oil flow to the chain, (In the same manner that an idle air screw in an Amal Concentric Mark 1 Carburetor works - but for air).
I find it difficult to believe that such an arrangement could work from oil within the crankcase breather circuit - as if such an amount of oil was present in the crankcase breather - I think you/we would have have major engine issues.
But I could be wrong.
I'm not arguing though - just old and pedantic

Unit singles use the primary chaincase bleed arrangement, but the A.10 system blows the engine breathings on to the chain at the gearbox sprocket.
If it works, etc...

You guys are correct, picked up a flu like illness this weekend and stupidly working on replacing Defender shock absorbers, with a temperature and shivers and thumping head! All my newer old British bikes have an oil feed from the oil tank, brain not full engaged. Though....

I do recall my 59 Triumph speed twin had one from the chaincase, so got a drip of oil under it on startup.

Similar setup on earlier Triumph's:

The u-shaped catcher in the chaincase drips out onto the chain, on my newer Speed twin it was a brass tube with a slot and blanked end on the chaincase side. My newer Triumph and AMC bikes use a connection from the oil tank.

Maintenance manual still recommended 3 times a year: clean in paraffin then heat outdoors in a cast iron frying pan on a primus stove in graphite grease.

See what you mean on the later triumphs, never worked on them. The Norton Dominator had a timed crankcase breather on the end of the camshaft same as your Triumph breathing onto the primary chain. All breathers now have to feed into a catch tank for racing.

There aren't many races long enough to need much of a chain oiler these days, given the other various inputs.
Mind you, if you want to Really Waste Power, just run a stiff or dry chain....

Mostly works, but Linklyfe is better..... smells a bit like beeswax, does that.

Most reliable system was the one used on Manx Norton's which allowed engine oil to spew from the exposed rockers and gently cover the complete back of the bike and the lower half of the rider in glorious R40.. The primary chain was oiled by a separate oil reservoir in the L.H.S.top frame tube and was controlled by a simple tap situated BETWEEN the chain runs and immediately in front of the exposed clutch. Genius! Eventually got banned after a few riders lost fingers .

Now he tells me ! Seems like I was wasting my time all those years ago with boiling Linklyfe and hanging the chains up to drip all over the workshop floor.

The worst bit was carrying the hot tins from the kitchen cooker to the workshop.

The smell was " evocative " but I'm not sure of what.

Still got 2 tins of the Honda equivalent on the shelf .

I remember being given a tin of that, and warming it up on the kitchen stove..… the smell never left the house for days. Mum and dad were not amused.

I persuaded one of my mates to put a Scottoiler on his VFR, as he was continually moaning how the chain would be red with rust after a long trip.

Then he moaned how his fancy gold rear wheel was covered in Scott oil…

So I told him to turn the drip rate down.

Finally he is happy and has stopped moaning.

I had the W800 ,had in less than year.
it was a nice looking bike but the vibes that came through the handle bars hurt my wrist.
I don't know what the W650 are like but told it was better than the 800.

I found this with cam belt drives as well, the more convoluted the route the more sensitive to tension. It got so that I raced my M16 slack, with an idler just touching the tensioned side of the belt to stop it flapping at 2500 rpm or so.

I didn’t have W800 for long either, I found the throttle was too much of an on/off switch, no subtlety to it.
