Repairing written off farm trailer

First I not going to buy trailer because I am no longer farming but if I was then I would be very tempted taking into account the price of new trailers also s/h is selling good
The trailer is online auction with Adam Hewitt salvage number 217640
There’s a clue what happened!
Probably overloaded with muck as there’s still some inside
The chassis rails have broken right where the cross member fits which holds the rams
The rams are bent
I am rather interested how the experts here would repair it
Or would you say no
As I say I won’t be buying it just interested

Working around anything that's had anything to do with muck is generally a horrible job.

Looks straight forward.
Put some cuts in the chassis straighten and weld it up + gussets.
Stick crossmember back on and loads of extra gussets from chassis to crossmember.

Wouldn't use it on the road though.

I seem to recall someone on here posted about repairing a trailer that had been overloaded with muck. Wonder if the rpair went to plan, or not, as the case may be ;-)

At very least I'd want to remove the body from the chassis and that alone is going to need something capable of lifting it and somewhere to store. Not something can do in my drive

The only time I have seen anything written off on a farm is when they have borrowed a bit of machinery from a mate and damaged it.

Seems to be farmers code of honor that you have to replace old with new if it's damaged so they usually just put in an insurance claim for those ones..

thats partly due to the win win of getting to keep the damaged item yourself for a nominal fee....

While i've never welded on manure laden steel, I have welded on old mower decks with that caked on white mold grass buildup.
6011 rod to burn thru it, and the smoke coming off....Phew right up your nose like horseradish.....

I know of a 12ton twin axle tipper trailer that had a wheel bearing go which destroyed the axle stub. For the last 10 years it's been a 12ton single axle trailer.

Yep, farmer friend has a couple of Jeep Grand Cherokees, 2.7 merc engine jobbies. They have been uber reliable and rarely give trouble, latest one has an autobox issue, I've diagnosed what's at fault, but, there's as much muck inside it as out so there's no way I'm diving in to fix it

Seen a couple of silage spreader tanks rolled when I worked next to an agricultural engineers. They gas axed the tanks up for scrap and fitted new tanks to the chassis.

Those days I wish I had stayed at home as that propper stank

Normally a farmer would add all three together. And it would be near enough!

This. Or if it looked much worse once you looked at it, then rebuild the chassis with new channel.
Trailer top has to come off, obviously. But its amazing what you can do with oxyfuel, a grinder and a welder...

A local farmer bought a brand new 6 ton dumper trailer first job for it was a load of sand from a nearby gravel pit. His son said to the loader driver "fill it up". Got it back to the farm went to tip it and instead of the body going up it pushed the axle clean off the trailer. They dug out approximately 20tons of sand brushed and cleaned it, put a half load of corn in it, got the manufacturer to look at it. I bet the bloke who welded the axle on got a bollocking for nothing.

A repair the other week.
Made the vertical rusty drawbar into a horizontal and not quite as rusty one.
