an extra RCD won't hurt on the extension. We prefer not to put chock blocks in as there is no strain relief on them. If we think that the cable will end up too short, the whole cable gets replaced and then PAT tested,

Theses two grinders were donated to us, the red one ended up being placed into the spares bin
The B&D was inspected, logged in and we choses to give it a go at getting it working.
Instant fail.
As we try to promote good working practice, we don't even power this up, until the damaged is fixed.
I had already tested this tool, so i knew it worked, but with the member we followed the safe way.
This is the switch, first impression that is one of the classic B&D sealed units. But I knew differant.
It does mean more stripping down.
Lift up the suppression capacitor and expose theses 2 connectors.
The switch can be slid out. Pop of the plastic cover and the 2 screw connections are exposed.
Then you can re-wire the switch.
Repaired, PAT done, guard fitted and now ready to be used.

As other things were going on, it was decided to fix this grinder. This is one of mine, I just had not got round to repairing it.
Well, that's not good.
The crimps are sealed with some gunk.
The blue cable was covered in a hard substance
The Brown was covered is something like silicon.
Removing it proved the blue cable was Open circuit.
Take note of the way the cables are routed and how the cable clamp is fitted.
Not how to do it.
Before final assembly I made sure it clipped in place.
All working.

I hope you recommend the additional RCD is plugged into the fixed socket, and the extension into it, rather than it plugged into the extension?
A neighbour at my last house used to use a really slow B&D decker drill powered hedge trimmer - he didn't bother with the chopping of the cable . . . went straight for the thumb

Not today, but the large amount of the work was done on Friday.
This came my way, it looked good, if a bit rusty.
How ever when stripping it down a big issue came to light.
It had been dropped.
The handle fixings were bent, but could be straightened. But the body was warped.
So we took it to a friends garage, who has a surface grinder.
A few pass's had the sole flat, a few more had the side at 90 degs and a nice finish.
The blade and caps were also done at the same time.
Assembled and now a nice addition.
This came my way, it looked good, if a bit rusty.
How ever when stripping it down a big issue came to light.

Yesterday was a busy day, a lot going on.
Lots of coffee drank, bread made and stuff fixed.
This is a few of the things we fixed, repaired, cleaned up and got working.
I chose theses items, as I have posted the images here.
The wooden box was part of a collection, the compass should not be there.
Rusty gramophone needles.
Needles de rusted, box polished and the insides given a few coats of Linseed oil.
We take cleaning up of tools as run of the mill. But some never have done it.
So this was used to show a new member that something they thought was only fit for the bin, could be saved and put to use.
Just using hand tools, hard work we have a nice small clamp.
Power tools can scare people, but there are ways to allow them to join in.
This Hacking knife was complete, but the cutting edge was blunt.
The leather was fed, then we put an edge on the blade.
Not with an oil stone, that needs a bit more tuition.

This Hanging Light pendant was mine, so it, with another item was used to teach members that brass cleaning id not hard work or dull.
Along with this Brass Barn Tin.
But the tin had an issue.
Oh well.
Brass cleaning solution.
Cleaned.
The broken steel pins were drilled out, then using a brass nail, new hinge pins were made and fitted.

Along with her care worker, we had some time so she could see what she could do.
Bare in mind she has never done any thing like this, was attending as the care home thought it would do her good to see more than the acre home.
A few images of the work were removed, as they showed the care staff or her. But also the teddy.
The sander was firts, as it would be needed.
It worked, it pass the PAT. But the foam on the base was falling off.
So Foam glue was used to fix it back into place.

One of the guys I knew in St. John ambulance managed to damage 3 fingers on one hand with a hedge cutter, luckily they managed to save the fingers, but he was left with some nasty scars.

My son’s partner managed to catch her fingers in the hedge cutter. Bit of a mess, not a pretty sight, but luckily healed up ok & no lasting damage.

I bought a weight caddy for the Olympic bars in our "gym" a while ago. Very sturdy but our weights are too small/dense cast iron, we think it's probably intended for larger concrete weights. The weights hit the floor as their diameter is too small
So, weld a few bars underneath.
Seems OK with the various sizes of weights
And now with most of the weights.
I may make the stand for the dumbell weights as I can't see anything similar to what we need.

Samsung eco bubble washing machine keeps stopping mid program ( lots of complaints online about it) last time I blew out all the carbon dust with the airline and wiped the commutator clean which seemed to work for a while. This time decided more drastic action, so skimmed in lathe, cleaned up and replaced brushes . We'll see how long this lasts

@The_Yellow_Ardvark I don’t suppose you have any Sykes Pickavant body hammers you’d like to sell? You regularly seem to get a good haul of used equipment and pass to good causes like men in sheds, and I’m in need to proper bodywork hammers not the usual Chinese rubbish. Already managed to snap the faces off a few of mine through excessive use of force.
